Not that I want it to happen but I could see management moving Garland now.

With the additions of Heinen and Sherwood and Hoglander being an option for the third line it could make sense.

8 mil spread out into a top 4 defender and a cheaper 3 million dollar guy like Skinner might make us better overall.

How is Miller, Petey, Suter, Blueger, Aman, etc not decent centre depth? Nothing wrong with that

Disagree

that’s not strong down the middle

after miller petey it’s a Grand Canyon dropoff to the next guy.
pk/faceoff specialist that can still play up when/if needed.

So that excludes all three of the Depth guys you mentioned. And that’s not on them, I like all three of them they just aren’t good enough.
I thought we wanted to upgrade and improve I didn’t realize status quo was the objective.

We had all those guys and added lindholm for a reason.

we aren’t good enough down the middle
middle six wingers we got in spades

as we do 6/7 d men.

The D is fine as is. Myers has proven he's fine in a top 4 role.

The biggest concern for me is getting another winger for Pettersson.

Whether that's now or at the deadline, I don't mind. I think the team, as is, is good enough to make the playoffs, but I'd like more offense from the EP line.

What he proved last year is he can be better with less minutes and the right partner.
This D is still a dogs breakfast. Need another everyday lefty and a second pairing righty to really be a championship contender.

As it stands (still time to go and the secondary trade/signing market)… our team isn’t as strong now as the end of the year.

The best we can say is that we likely won’t regret any signings from today.  Decent signings and decent dollars.

A lot of teams who made bigger moves will have fared worse in hindsight.

We will miss having three reliable D pairings.  With guys like Cold and Edmunson getting big dollars, Zadorov is worth the $5 million he signed for.

Exactly.

You can cover his shortcomings with another solid pairing.  With the current players we will need Soucy-Myers to play more than 20 minutes a night and that is a recipe for a lot of bad nights.

Dumba got term and 5.5M so yeah, 5M not a bad ask for Z.

Skinner and Boqvist then move Podkolzin for a D prospect of similar value? I'd look at dumping Suter and have Åman as the 4C for cap savings too

Skinner - Miller - Boeser

Höglander - Pettersson - DeBrusk

Joshua - Blueger - Garland

Sherwood - Åman - Heinen

Hughes - Hronek

Soucy - Boqvist

Forbort - Myers

Demko

Silovs

Easily a better team on paper than last year.

Yes to Skinner for the right price, but I'd rather not dump Suter who's been serviceable (agreed we could trade Podkolzin if we won't be playing him), and I wouldn't lock Boqvist in so soon, not sure he'll live up to that upside if he couldn't even do so in Columbus.
