Heinen was a quality signing. Debrusk I had pegged at 5-6M. 5.5 is alright but he is a multifaceted scoring forward who shows up in the playoffs. Is 27, plays with some grit and is a good forechecker. Tocchet will like him and he’s gonna be probably with Petey.

Heinen might look good with Boeser and Miller. Debrusk with Petey and Hoglander.

What we really need is Hogz to come alive with EP.  Debrusk will be a great signing if he can be the power forward that EP needs to fetch pucks, muck around the front of the net and give EP some space.  From these aspects, I like the Debrusk signing.  The trouble is, that line really needs a second guy as a scoring threat and set up guy.  This is Hogz's time to shine.

Similarly, Podz needs to step up this year and take Suter's spot on the JT line.

If these two guys step up, we're looking good with great forward depth including the fourth line.....so one more solid D and we're in good shape.

Edit:  while I'm typing.....perhaps they've found that guy.  Not completely sold on him but he is big and physical, with a good cap hit and age. Right-handed too.

Soucy is a career 3rd pairing that can play up once in a while. Myers is getting older and who knows if Myers will be back to Myers after contract year? So replacing Cole and zadorov with forbort and Juulsen makes the defence better defensively? Seriously? Soucy Myers juulsen forbort none of them would be on any teams top4 pairings if given the choice but we not only have 1 but 2 of them

Zadorov is a career 3rd pairing guy - a #4 at best and Cole is there as well at this point of his career.

Zadorov, Cole, Soucy, Myers, Forbort… they’re all 17-19 minute a night bottom-4 defencemen.

Juulsen is a step below.  A  14-15 minute 6-7 guy.

I’d agree that it’s worse, but it’s not much worse… and it’s pretty even to what we went into the season with last year.

Lekkerimaki in the wings if Hog/Pod can’t eventually figure it out down the road.

Debrusk has good age too. We’re gonna be getting a lot of his good years out of him.

Lekkerimaki is not there yet, but he won't be far behind hopefully.

Debrusk as the key piece of this year is not great on paper......but I do think he's the type of player EP needs, so there could be some synergy there.  Hopefully...

Debrusk also a playoff performer. Leafs are happy he’s gone. He’s had an affinity of knocking them out of the playoffs.
