Yep and they lost key pieces in Pesce and Skjei and failed to close the deal with Guentzel despite meeting his terms exactly.

You gotta think they look back now and wished they traded Necas for Miller.  All their troubles right now wouldn't exist.

Still need more puck movement on the back end.

Looking at Florida’s D they got it done with a very average defense core but they all bought into a system and had forwards that all played strong two way games that helped the D out.

I would say we need one more veteran D man to balance out this core. Forbort needs to be a rotating number 6 guy along with Desharnais.

We made good moves but never got that big difference maker to play with Petey. That should have been priority # 1.

My grade to the Canucks is a C-

So how else could they have gotten that big difference maker?

They woukd have had to either overpay, or kidnap someone.

Which one are you suggesting is the better plan?

forbort is 32 right?

edit: heinen is 29 in 4 days.

Forbort turned 32 in March. But it's a year 1.5 mill depth Dman signing.

When it comes to any term the guys are young.

Stamkos got 8 mill 4 yrs. That's a horrible contract. He's 34 yrs old.

Tanev got 6 yrs he's 34 yrs old. But his body so beat up he'll likely be done in 2 years.

We didn't make any mistakes by over paying for has been old guys..

I would have paid Stamkos 8 mil, but the reality is that would have not even gotten him here.

I think Vincent Desharnais is going to be a big upgrade over Cole on our 3rd pair.

6'6 RHD he's only had 1 real full NHLseason. Late bloomer.

Reminds me of Dakota Joshua. Desharnais is going to be the next Joshua on this team but on Defense.

This coaching staff is going to turn him into a real good player.

Desharnais is 6'7" 😁

That the bet they’ve made signing him.

It’s gonna be a solid test to see how good our D coaches are. If they can get VD into another gear imagine how they will eventually shape up PeteD and Willander with ample time.

But again, if Stamkos says no then it ends there.

Some folks just can't grasp that if a player we want signs somewhere else, it doesn't mean management did anything wrong or "missed out". Lots of players don't want to come to Canada, let alone the Canucks.

He's  6'6 on CapFriendly but IF he's 6'7 that's even better.

Either way we have a huge D core.

Myers 6'8

Deharnais 6'6

Soucy 6'5

Forbort 6'4

Julssen 6'2

That's just awe inspiring cant wait for season to start.

Deharnais is going to surprise à lot of people.  Canucks coaches are going to use the same magic on him as they did on Joshua. Hes going to be a stud for us..

Exactly. One more two way Dman with some speed and O skill. Doesnt have to be a stud, just someone mid range and reliable

8 mill 4 yrs 34 yrs old....

Horrible contract.. one of the worst contracts signed today...

I wouldn’t even want him at 4 mill

Stamkos’ deal is not horrible.
You pay a premium for goals, and he has not slowed down regardless of age. If anything his contract is warranted regardless of age, imho

The only issue I can see with it is that he’s had great set up people in TB. Does NSH provide him with the same? Unlikely
