Forbort turned 32 in March. But it's a year 1.5 mill depth Dman signing.

When it comes to any term the guys are young.

Stamkos got 8 mill 4 yrs. That's a horrible contract. He's 34 yrs old.

Tanev got 6 yrs he's 34 yrs old. But his body so beat up he'll likely be done in 2 years.

We didn't make any mistakes by over paying for has been old guys..

Thats what i thought too. The terms for the smaller pieces gives us flexibility and wont anchor us long term. We got slightly less skilled but a hell.of a lot tougher to play against

I think theres more there from Debrusk

Im so thankful we dodnt do anything stupid like that..

8 mill 4 yrs 34 yrs old....

Horrible contract.. one of the worst contracts signed today...

I wouldn’t even want him at 4 mill

Umm you realize he scored 40 and had 81 points last season right?

His production is not going anywhere over the next 4 years. He’ll be producing like Pavelski.

Debrusk is the best contract signed today by any team imo.

He's going to be a bargain as soon as next season. 27 yr old  30+ goal guy for the next few yrs, defensively responsible,  can PK and will PP here on this team.

Star player in the NHL for the next 5 years.

So how else could they have gotten that big difference maker?

They woukd have had to either overpay, or kidnap someone.

Which one are you suggesting is the better plan?

Agreed

Once Guenztel was off the table, Debrusk was a defensible plan B option.

The only other options I can see for an appreciable upgrade over Debrusk within the next year would be:

-if a future trade opens up (e.g. if Carolina drops their asking price for Necas).

-if someone sells at the TDL

-if Lek transitions faster than expected

-if someome else on the current roster (e.g. Hogs or Joshua) takes a big step forward this year

He's  6'6 on CapFriendly but IF he's 6'7 that's even better.

Either way we have a huge D core.

Myers 6'8

Deharnais 6'6

Soucy 6'5

Forbort 6'4

Julssen 6'2

That's just awe inspiring cant wait for season to start.

Deharnais is going to surprise à lot of people.  Canucks coaches are going to use the same magic on him as they did on Joshua. Hes going to be a stud for us..

Hockeydb has him as 6'7".

Either way, I liked what flashes I saw from him in the playoffs for EDM.  Played a bit like Myers, which isn't a bad thing.  I'm not talking chaos giraffe... I'm talking good Myers.

He'll still be great when Lekkeramaki enters the roster.

He'll become more responsible defensively and physically under our coaching staff.

He's played VERY well the past number of seasons IMO...

If I were to nitpick though...I would say his point totals might have something to do with playing with Kucherov & Point.

Kucherov had 100 assists this year...It's sort of like Hyman playing on McDavids line IMO.

I'm not expecting Stamkos to be a point per game or 40 goal scorer in Nashville... Just my opinion however.

He's also never played in the Western Conference where they play a bigger, heavier game and travel takes a big toll on players health.

I give management a B+ for Free Agency. Simply because they had a plan A which fell through, and they carried out signing some size and grit for decent contracts, and didn't get suckered into anything.

I'll say this, though, Pettersson really needs to take his game to the next level. We can't be paying for that type of production and have him go missing while the team improves.

Yeah, the fate of this core lies with Petey.

Am I the only one that doesn’t see Podkolzin as more than a bottom 6 grinder?

At the moment?  Yeah.  He still has solid potential to move higher than that though.  This year is a very significant year for him.  He needs a bit of a breakout like Hogs had last year.
