Umm you realize he scored 40 and had 81 points last season right?

His production is not going anywhere over the next 4 years. He’ll be producing like Pavelski.

A significant portion of that production was on the PP and because he had Kucherov feeding him. 5v5 he was frustrating (I had him in fantasy haha)

I think there will be a bit of a dropoff in Nashville

On defense, we have a lot of stop gaps and bottom pairing guys, so I'd still like a legit top 4 dman (we only have 2 and they might play with each other).

Forwards look fine, obviously can't be as good as having a top 6 2-way centering the 3rd line, but the 4th line looks improved and Petey got a winger to improve the top 6.

Summary:

Top-6 forwards are better

3rd line should still be solid, but not as offensive or elite without  Lindholm.

4th line is better, especially for the role.

Defense is full of big guys (albeit slower), but lacks a true top 4 dman on the 2nd pairing (or a #3 guy).

My main target would be a 2nd pairing dman.

Thats NOT how the lines are going to look....

Heinen Miller Boeser

Hoglander  Pettersen Debrusk

Joshua Blueger Garland

Sherwood Suter Podkolzin

DGP Aman

Hughes Horonek

Soucy Myers

Forbort Deharnais

Friedman Juulsen

Demko

Silovs

Heinen was a slick little addition.  I could see his speed looking good with Miller and Boeser.  Bonus points for bumping Suter back to C.

I was disappointed about Zadorov. Also wanted Guentzel

But gaining depth is definitely a positive

Very true about depth - 82 games of physical hockey (+ playoffs) is a bit much for just 1-2 lines on a team.  I hope this team can roll all lines consistently and keep manageable playing levels throughout the year instead of the top line over 20m+ and bottom less than 6.  I think that is why the Kraken + Golden Knights had early success - most of their players were 2-3rd line players and the scoring was all spread out.

Will be interested to see how the coaches will work with the D.  We essentially lost Cole Zadorov and replaced with Forbort + Desharnais - the difference is the extra mobility with Z so pretty sure they will start looking at some playing options.

All in all - they got 5 starters instead of 3 or so by avoiding the very large contracts - which is a bit more conservative approach than in the past.

Hoglander Pettersson Necas

Joshua Blueger Sherwood

Heinen Suter Karlsson/Aman/PDG

A couple of points:

  • Debrusk is 27, Toffoli is 32
  • Debrusk is fast, Toffoli is not
  • Debrusk plays special teams, Toffoli does not
  • production is about the same

As for Guentzel, he was just about the only high end player worth bidding on.  The winner was in a no tax state.  It's pretty tough to compete with that.

Credit to Allvin for the quick pivot to Plan B

Like I responded to another poster. Toffoli was just an example of a pure goal scorer type I was hoping to get to play beside Petey. Could have been Guentzel, or Monahan or Stamkos. Debrusk is prob a more complete player but isn;t THAT type of player. Didn't say PA had a choice just saying I was disapointed.

Has Sprong signed yet?  Would be a really nice addition to add even more speed and scoring to our top 6.

Sprong-Miller-Boeser

Hoglander-Petey-Debrusk

Joshua-Blueger-Garland

Heinen-Suter-Sherwood

Hasnt signed yet

Would you take Sprong or Kylington for the last move?

Id take Kylington personally, i think we need 1 more puck mover

I'd like someone with a little more offensive flare with Miller and Boeser than Heinen, and I think we'll find someone.

Oh that's a tough one.  Probably Sprong. He would add another offensive piece up front... good for 40 to 50 points.  Lots of speed.

im worried that our bottom 4 are going to get buried in our end

i liked that zadorov could skate the puck up ice

forbort and desharnais possess no such skillset

That's where our forwards need to provide outlets.  It's gotta be a team transition game.  The puck moves faster than any player can skate.

one defenseman has to be able to make a good pass or skate it out though, at least to get the puck to a forward

soucy-myers were not great at escaping the zone with control, whether pass or skate

very worried our new bottom pair is in the same boat

im hoping GMPA sits tight and lets the first 20 games or so play out with this lineup and then spend the cap space we have once its clear what we need more of

Heinen is a 20 goal guy on that line. Hes a really good 2 way player as well. So Boeser and Miller can play a bit more offensive minded..

Heinen is exactly the type of player that's needed on that line.
