Give him a deadline and say you have signed by then otherwise the team is exploring trade options because you aren’t willing to lose your offseason flexibility by being held hostage for a possible arb award. Then the player has to decide whether they want to spend a year in an unknown place and not know how that will impact their big contract… or stay here but not at the price they wanted.
