I feel like Big Z is gone unless he comes in way lower than expected.  The money it would cost to sign Big Z as a LHD could better be utilized in the UFA market this year to lock in another top tier RHD.

Check it out...

i don't much about Demelo but is he really that good that you think he'd demand 5.75 on the open market?

Even with Mik gone, we wont have the space for zadorov.

im assuming they're going to go hunting for a Lindholm-Lite, and take a run at Stephenson or Monahan. 3 deep down the middle, they already told us thats how they want to run it.

uh.. they have over 19m in cap right now with LTIR. With mik gone its almost 25 million. Thats more than enough for Zads, guetzel or another winger and a couple more pieces.

I knew he'd go down from 8. It had to be him starting high.

This is why I take everything the media says with a grain of salt: alll the trade talk involving Hronek, people saying how Yzerman was some genius for trading Hronek away because of was Hronek would be asking for. So much noise for nothing. lol

Part of the reason I believe hronek doesn’t shoot much have to do with the Canucks coaching philosophy.. RT don’t want you to shoot unless you are sure it won’t get blocked hence all their players don’t even attempt to shoot. Especially as a defenceman if it gets blocked likely an odd man rush the other way. After the all star break the entire teams shot attempt went further down

8 more years of stellar first halves of seasons and declining production and play down the stretch.

The entire team declined in play after the all star break.

A fair and reasonable deal as of today.  This will quickly look like a steal as GMs and agents begin adapting to the rising cap.

^^^^^^^

Add Miller's contract locked in, Petey's locked in for 8 years and Huggy for the next 3, our Beloved Canucks are locking in their core. The rising cap will be a weapon to use in building around the core. Huggy will be in the Petey range probably when time to renew but we can hope the cap goes up another $10 - 15M by then.

Some very tidy managing by the management, yup, very tidy.

Now sign Big Zeke to around $5.25M. Huggy, Honker, Soucy and Zeke is a pretty good D to build around. Especially with our beloved Giraffe willing to take a discount to be part of this and Donkey as a solid #7 ... there is room for one of the AHLers to have a shot at stepping up with an ELC.

Sunny Days my friends, Sunny Days indeed ahead.

Like that this provides the concise(comparable) return for ol'BoHo. Would've been an embarrassing waste, had this asset moved on, or been lost in a poorly executed, rushed transaction.

Easy to track Hronek & Ratu vs BoMoneybags.

Well what should have happened was probably signing Bo Horvat in the summer before his last year under contract started. He was a 50+ point captain material center man who was good defensively. If they’d have offered him like 6.5 to 6.75 mill a year for 8 years he would have signed. At the time they were rumoured to be offering him 5.25 mill a year. It wasn’t until halfway through the season when he was putting up incredible numbers did we start to offer him a reasonable contract and then he was looking more like 8 million a season was a possibility and we were priced out. Wouldn’t have needed to trade for Lindholm and just use those assets to have gotten Hronek. We’d have a good defensive point producing center man locked up for under 7 million.

He played top pair for the Jets next to Morrissey.  Played 21:44 ATOI, 2:35 on the PK.

4th in hits on their team with 167 in 82 games.

1st in blocked shots with 139 in 82 games.

Should be good for about 20 points per season.

2nd highest +/- in the entire NHL behind Forsling.

8 more years of telling other teams when their holidays begin! :classic_biggrin:

That is worth an extra $500,000 alone on the contract.

Some of the assets that were recieved in the Horvat deal got the Canucks Hronek though

How this ages will depend a lot on how he plays--which admittedly is like saying water is wet, but we saw two very different Hroneks this year. 1st Half Hronek was worth $8M. Second half Hronek was worth $5M. We'll see which one we get.

That said, with the length of the contract and the ever rising cap, this will likely seem like a pretty solid deal in the years to come. Despite the length, he'll still be just 34 at the end of this deal, so not too old and should still be capable.

Last offseason the mantra was “we must start fast!”
I believe that this eventually had an effect on the entire team.  Many of them began to wear down late in the season.  Next year they don’t need to play so desperate so early.  You’ll probably see a positive effect on many players.  Hopefully that includes Hronek!
