I’m pretty sure Tocchet mentioned guys going down too early as one of the things he wanted to clean up when he came in.

Funny how new coaches got through to Myers on a bad habit in a few weeks.

The amount of times going down on your belly and stopping a pass works is so rare.

Forwards are too smart now they see it coming. They either take the shot or out wait the sliding D man.

Just tell Myers to stay on his feet and use his long reach. It’s much more effective.

I watched a video of Foote showing Hronek to just take one knee and keep one skate blocking the pass rather than laying down and sprawl and pivot with his hips and then he could defend well in control of his motions, I’m sure Myers is getting the same preach I just dunno how well Myers is at balancing going down to one knee well being pushed backwards under pressure haha

When your defensive partner is still in the oZone because he did fancy shit, and now you are the only one back, you block the pass. Myers always did.

The shots went in because of Dehlia or Martin or whoever we had. Myers was played incorrectly is all.

Myers should be attacking the puck as it comes into zone. %90 of the time he gets it because the guy comeing in doesnt want to get hit by a friggin giant.

The way they played Myers was abusive.

Make the giant run away from puck. What does that tell the other team? get around this Barcade and we good!!

Love our coaches.

Myers is a totally different player under Tocchet.  He is a huge man and he really didn't use that in the latter portion of his big contract.  Under Coach Bruce;  Myers literally had no direction on the ice and looked like a complete goof on the ice.  Under Tocchet he plays his position and uses his massive size and reach.  I'm happy for the guy as he seems to be super popular with his teammates and it never hurts having giants defend your goal.  He isn't a fighter but man he can lay some serious punish when the time arises

Unfortunately I noticed when he delivers huge hits he gets a penalty.. so he doesn’t hit often

Myers will be a pleasant surprise this coming year. 3M for a big dude that can play 20 minutes is not a bad deal at all.

Sure we all want a new fancy name on the team, but sometimes new and shiny is not as good as what you have already.

This year bigZ showed Myers that if you bend the knees as you hit, no penalty.

Or maybe it was because the refs couldnt call all the Z hits, the Juulson hits, the Myers hits just because they are giants.

At least we got another tower power Dejarnais, who Myers can mentor on "size discrimiation" hits compared to a regular hit.

When you a foot taller you got to shrink first, and explode upwards with the knees, not leaving the ice. Joshua also does that well.

Well said. We would have loved him the last 6 years if he was not overpaid. Now we can love him openly. Dont be shy folks. Watch some highlights....

It's unfortunate when it happens to our team. But I also view it as part of what makes this sport so entertaining. If every play was defensively sound it would be as boring as golf (to pay to watch).

Has been for several years, actually.

Last season was definitely his best in quite awhile, but he was never as bad as CDC made him out to be. Canuck fans always have to have a whipping boy. Before Myers, there was Edler and Juice.....

People need to get over this "top 4 / bottom pairing" stuff. It seems pretty clear to me that the coaching staff wants to stay away from having a true bottom pairing, like a pairing of Cole and Juuls would have been labeled. If Z is resigned, he'll likely be paired with Juulsen, while Myers will be paired with Soucy. IMO, those pairings are pretty much interchangeable....

Sad but true.  With Eagle, after his close to 50 point campaign, Canuckland seemed to hold it against him for not going the next level, like perennial 50-60 plus point land.    His hitting the first couple years also looked to replace Ohlunds.  The points never came, and the hitting dialed back after injuries.   And once him and Tanev were all that was left, the piling on started in earnest.   Green jacket plus minus league wide one season didn't help.   Funny how we added Myers and Miller, then went on to have a really fun run in the bubble.   It's a team sport, and even the very best isn't enough once the other shoe drops and that part of the cycle starts.

Hamhuis and Bieksa was our top pairing for a couple seasons including 2011.   They got the heaviest assignments, and there was a contingent before that who was hard on Bieksa too.    One year, he was tied for league lead in EV strength points (think with Weber), never got first unit PP time ... probably my favourite Canuck over that period.   Mitchell a close second (as far as D's go).    As far as Myers goes, yes his cap hit was high, but it wasn't like he didn't earn it either.     He was better than Cole last season, and there isn't much reason to doubt him and Soucy won't form a good two-way pairing for us next season.    Myers has a bit of an IT factor in the post season which counts for something too.    Both in the bubble (was by far our most physical player) and his hit on Draisaitl had an impact.   He's a bargain at his current cap hit, and we will need him until Willander gets going.   Glad we re-upped him, not re-signing Mitchell and instead going after Ballard was a big mistake.

And i'm sure the brass plans to add something during the season.   Wasn't a fan of not re-signing Zadarov.    But am happy we finally have a D that isn't reliant on just Myers to play the body.   Forbot we are going to like.   Juulsen isn't better than Myers, but is also a gritty back-up.  QHs and Hronek likely will play 25 minutes a night, with little PK time ... that should help things along until the timing and cap space has accrued enough to add next seasons Zadarov.

145 a couple years ago is close to two a game, and would put him above average territory.   Last year 110, Cole 83.  Soucy likes to hit, 143 two seasons ago .. and his hits can be pretty devastating.   More so than Myers, although he's had some beauties too.   Agree he gets penalized (more than he should) during the regular season, and also did in the bubble, because his hits are often borderline high and at full speed are hard to judge, and as a result holds back.   It's obvious he likes to do it, because he amps things up in the post season when the whistles go away.

Would agree he holds back, but he still throws his size around.   And prefer that to a Biega and Burroughs whose hits don't hurt the same.   Juulsen, if he can learn when to avoid getting out of position, and still keep his pace, could become a valuable third pairing D for us.   Myers intangibles, for sure include his hitting.   Draisaitl.   And well Duncan Keith was a cathartic.   Teams committed to 8 seasons now with Myers.   If he plays them out,  there is still time to add some post season memories too.    And is likely going to pass quite a few long serving all-time Canuck D's on the way too, in points.   Tanev next season, his 6th year.

Myers is the most underrated player by this fan base. In saying that yes he was over paid for a long time but people would have you believe he was replacement level and that just wasn't the case. In 5 seasons often taking on our hardest matchups, he's -1 averaging over 20pts. He was maybe 1.5m -2m overpaid. The 3x3 he's on now is just about right. He's always been a consumate professional and leader in the room. I'm thrilled to see him back.

Look how much he’s grown under Tocc and Foote. 🦒

3 million a year is such a better fit too

Yup.  He's opened up his home to young players in the off-season and took on a lot of the leadership role than Tanev and Edler had on the blueline.  He needs a stay at home partner, but his performance both last season and in the bubble indicates that he's the type of player who plays better in the playoffs.
