There's certainly a market for him...

$7M AAV, but recently just put up 75 points.  He will probably be about the same kinda player for another 2 or 3 years until he regresses into a 60 to 65 point guy... but he still does things right without the puck.  He's probably gonna be decent value for the remainder of his contract (5 years left).  Maybe overpaid by $1M to $1.5M in the last year or 2 of his deal.

There's definitely a market for him if they retain, which wouldn't surprise me

Getting assets back now and freeing up a good chunk of his cap space would probably be a win for Calgary, it appears they're serious about retooling/rebuilding

unless cowtown is retaining 1/2, and taking nothing back, zero interest in someone of his character.

I don't even think they'd need to retain to get value back for Kadri.  Let's say he puts up two more 70+ point seasons, then regresses to 55 to 60 points.  The cap going up by then would translate to pretty average value for the cap hit.  Wouldn't be an anchor or anything, that's for sure.

If Calgary retains $1M, then they would certainly get quite a bit back.  Just imagine if Kadri were a UFA this year.  How much would one be willing to pay for a 2-way, gritty, 75pt centre?

Someone would be... like I mentioned above... 2-way, gritty, Stanley Cup winning 75pt centre that can win a ton of draws too?  If that was an option in the UFA market, he would absolutely get $7M+ ... probably even close to $8M given the lack of high end centres this year.

I know, I just can't stand him 🤣

my guess is they get a 2nd for him from Utah.

I don't disagree, it's interesting how his career has gone

Always nice to see former Toronto picks/players go on to have success elsewhere

I'm still chuckling about Verhaeghe for example, turned into a star and just won a cup

Shockingly with the Avs now done with Nicushkin (rumours his contract may be terminated due to repeated violations) there's a potential home for him if there's sone retention back in Colorado

33, 34 in October, and 5 more years on his contract at 7mil. He's still productive now. But with that much term and his current age already being closer to mid 30s than early 30s. Eh. Good luck. Might have to come with 1mil retention. At least. But the guy is still good like I said, might be a market for him. Just not a very big one with the NMC. Anyone with cap he might not even want to go to.

I can see the CGY sales pitch right now:

Available: older veteran cheap shot specialist with some productive years possibly remaining on an untradeable contract.  All trades/offers considered. Comes with 3 year old Stanley Cup ring.

That's what I keep trying to say... CGY isn't gonna rebuild.  They have guys locked in long term and now have a TON of cap space to reload.  They're gonna be active this UFA season and will likely have a team capable of battling for a WC spot next year while still holding a TON of futures.

Also, if teams are calling on him that kind of puts a damper on those saying teams ain't interested in his contract
