shiznak
Not sure why he didn’t take the Canes’ offer? Less years, and money. I also think the Hurricanes are closer at winning the Stanley Cup, than the Lightning are. Edited July 1 by shiznak

North Carolina is only 3.5% individual tax rate, but compared to none in Florida can add up to big difference. On gross of $7M is $245,000. Guessing contract is structured with some years where the salary is much higher than that, so the tax implications could be significant between the two states.
iinatcc
Notice neither Reinhart nor Guentzel's signings revelaed the amount. Is this going to be a thing moving forward?

flickyoursedin
Now we sign Stamkos and we beat Tampa in the Stanley Cup Finals!
Wing
Signed for than the total contract value offered by canes. We'd have to offer something like 10.5M even if he makes it to market. Reinhart reportedly resigned with Panthers 8.625M which is a bargain if he can replicate this season. Those who still believes tax free state is not a key factor needs to rethink again. It's even more important if they front load the contracts for older players who might not play out the full term of the contract.
