Well there is great news then: The new 3.5 cents a litre increase in the carbon tax is only going to cost you,(assuming you have had it roughly 4 years and will keep the same driving habits) roughly one pizza per year, or 147 dollars over the entire next 4 years.
Optimist Prime
I want to add that for that small inconvenience, we have a national effort to incentivize folks to choose greener alternatives. Imagine corporations with fleets on the road realizing it may be cheaper to buy electrics o r hybrids going forward, lowering deliver of such through scales of economy. It is a decent enough plan when you consider 80% of us get the rebate of our money back, or our provinces do where provincial deals are in place.

Boudrias
Latest poll had CPC at 43%. Since Canada is a socialist country CPC support is an indication of how many people see no hope under the Conservatives. No one knows if PP can lead Canada to better times but it appears he will get his chance. Stats Can report has economic output per capita down 7% below the long term trend from 1981 to 2023. That is $4200 per capita. Recovery would require several years of GDP growth of + 1.7%. Doable but not a quick turnaround.

The way it is stated in a single sentence makes it sound like we are receeding, and that is absolutely not the case, also we have been outperforming the projections for several years in a row now. Looking at the covid plunge, being only 7% off is simply brilliant performance. From a tick over 60,000 GDP per capita pre-covid to a low of around 52,000 at peak covid and already back to over 58,000. What more can we expect? Noteworthy is that every expert in the field predicted actual recession, which we have avoided. I guess you can spin it in a single sentence either way to support the path this country is on or to roast the driver of the bus. I am incredibly thrilled beyond belief that we didn't have a Conservative Government in charge for the Covid Years. Our collective outcomes are much better with the way reality played out. Interim polling is an indicator of current mood for sure, lets see where we are in a year. PP spent this week visiting a camp of extremists. Trudeau brought Honda to Canada.

He pulled over to talk to carbon tax demonstrators. Anyone who protest the Liberal government action are extremist in your book. If the CPC gave handouts to corporations like Trudeau is doing it would be corporate welfare. It is sad that governments in Canada have to provide the capital that private companies should be doing. Yes, it happens on both sides of the aisle. Trudeau has given out 10's billion of dollars for battery plants and EV car production. I hope it pays off.

Kinda of a cheap political effort. Call the guy out on how he will finance his promises. How will he replace the revenue from his tax cuts? I also understand why he won't comment on his platform but also understand why he is pressed for it. It is past the time for Canada to be put on a sound financial foot. I know Singh and Trudeau cannot do it. I give PP odds of less than 50% than he can as well. I fear the country is on the verge of a real estate collapse similar to 2008 in the USA. The problem is that Canada does not have the balance sheet to prevent it and Trudeau cannot buy a house for everyone.
