He lives amongst the chowder heads now.

Only positive for him is he's too tall for Marchand to lick his ear.

But Brad is short enough to lick something else…….

Good interview,  living the dream , going to the team of a player he idolized.

See how he lines up , one journalist thought he’d get the chance to play alongside McEvoy (aprx 9:50).

Boston Fans have a beauty , never a dull moment, great interviews, and a Boston Style Game .

Sure looks like he is going to be a Top 4 Dman in Boston, contrary to some of the experts on this forum who seen him as a 5/6 dman. Not to worry though, we still have Soucy/Myers in our top 4. :classic_rolleyes:

I think most folks are coming to the realization that it wasn't about money. Despite Zadorovs end of season interviews, he didn't actually want to be here.

That’s not true at all. Did you just make that up?  The Canucks weren’t offering 6 years. They were willing to go up to $5 million. Zadorov even said in his interview that they got “stuck” on something with the Canucks. It was the 6th year.

That sucks.

That contract of 6 years takes him to 35 yrs..   nothing wrong with that.

I was looking for Trade Clauses on CapF but I think his profile is incomplete on contract details .

I think this all came down to Zads wanting to play in Boston. The numbers all seem like it could of worked here if he really wanted it. I'm sour he's gone, but it's his life, his decision and I can respect that.

that’s a good good contract for both parties.

I agree ,  but if the 6th year was the hitch,

any regression in his play could have been safe guarded by those same Clauses.

And IF he theoretically goes down to injury / LTIR his 5m number allows for another good contract to come in.

I too have nothing but gratitude and respect for Nikita ,  his game here in the playoffs helped allow our TEAM to experience a deep push and play against aggressive teams .

We got 2 Zadorov replacements (bottom pair dmen) for nearly half the cost of Zadorov tidy work done

Yep. Great point! We're going to be just fine. We were good before Zad arrived. I'm confident we'll get that true top 4 dman at some point. Management knows the holes. We rebounded well yesterday.

This is what bugs me an others. I feel management should of just gone six years and signed the guy. I love him that much. I feel though, that he was going to choose Boston even if all was equal in the end. Just a hunch.

Spreading out that money addressed multiple needs.

Not signing Myers or Deharnais would be the 5m.

and our D ..

Hroneck Hughes Zadorov Soucy Forbert Juulsen .. ect ect

Myers does not make what we have any better than that .. except we would have a better D man in Zadorov .

29 yrs in Zad til 35 yrs that contract ages well.

Vs 34 yrs in Myers til 38 yrs ..

anyway he’s gone .   and I’m happy for him.

They clearly don't view him as a right side option...as a lay man, I would be happy to see him play on the right side with Hughes but I also trust the coaching staff...we'll see if they are right.

There also appeared to be worried that it would be laissez-faire Z rather than playoff Z if he signed the big contract.

We're still retaining size on the blueline. That's a good thing. Didn't think that was going to happen after Zad leaving. Improves our PK as well.

We lost but also gained. Could have been much worse.

Still need that true top 4 dman.

But anyway, yeah, he's gone. Really wish we could have kept him here.

Honestly, considering the amount of overpayments out there I'm fine having not gone nuts with our cap space

Lot of offseason left for more signings and trades

It's refreshing the day after. Will be interesting to see what's to come. Yesterday was another good level of foundation to build up from.

Willander will be with the Canucks , on the Main Team,  just as soon as he decides to leave or finish school.

Maybe we see him in another playoff run.

..  just my opinion,  but I don’t see him in the farm , or if he is , it will be a short stint.

I can't wait. He's not that far off. College is the right place for him right now in his development as a player and young man.

I agree. Can't see him spending too much time on the farm. His level of talent will be better served on the big club.

We just need to keep working on the D during this period so he contribute effectively when he steps in and he's not in over his head.

I would have rather had Zadorov for 5M and 6 years than Myers at 3 for 3, especially since Wallinder will be coming in and a physical defenseman like Zadorov seems like the perfect partner for him and would have given us options:

Hughes- Hronek

Zadorov (mobile, physical d-man)- Willander

Soucy (Defense/PK specialist)- Depth (Physical)

That would have been a good mix of speed, offense, skill, physicality, and defense.

I think we'll still need a mobile, physical d-man in our top-4 when Willander comes up, so we're going to be hunting for another Zadorov in the next year or 2.

You're not wrong. But I'm also glad we didn't overpay. That's also important after where we've been in overpayments.

I also think some of it came down Myers being easier to work with and is more a team first guy. Especially when negotiations hit the wall with Zad.

So, that kind of proves my point. Zadorov didnt want to be here. He was being offered the same amount of money, and one season less, and he chose to leave. He made a choice. Pretty sure if he wanted to stay he would have accepted the offer

At that price and term, I'm ok with what they've done getting the players we have signed. Much rather have several guys with physical aggression and grit who will stand up for eachother and make us a pain in the ass to play against than z doing the majority of that role. They're definately not done yet and there's time to still add and sort the starting day line up. Sad to see him go but it was his choice and he earned that right.

And some self proclaimed experts here have blinders on because 6’6.

our smallest bottom 4 dman is now 6’4 216 collectively the Canucks improved over just one big fish.
