Signing a winger from Boston to an expensive long term deal, in order to play with the Canucks' All-star Swedish centre?

Didnt we hear that story few years ago?

Loui was a far better consistant player (imho) than Debrusk.  Difference (huge) difference is age.  Loui was north of 30 years old.  And of course, Hank was even older.

I live in Boston so I'm pretty familiar with his game. He was given every opportunity to succeed in the top 6 and still fell short of expectations. Inconsistent offensively and soft. There's a reason Boston let him walk to FA.

With that said, he's got a lot of speed, has decent hands, and can play anywhere up and down the lineup. Definitely not a playdriver so he'll be a good complimentary piece depending on where he slots in.

All reasons I didn't want PA to pursue this player.

Not to mention after Cassidy benched him a couple seasons ago he publicly asked for a trade instead of working his ass off and earning his ice time back.   That's never a good look for a player imo.

With the money thrown around, 5.5 AAV is a good deal. 7 years seems long but he’s one of the younger FAs out there.

Those that would have rather us throw the 6x5mil to Zadorov forgets he was Canucks’ 6th defencemen in ice time through the regular season, had a spectacular playoffs but doesn’t translate to a 6x5mil imo

Z could easily have been a 3-4 D guy.  Now look at our 5-6.  We went from being a very strong D team to an okay D team.....but with one key injury we're suddenly a lacking D team.

The good news is that 3rd liners will be paid around what he just got in 7 years or so. I do like that his 7-year deal will take him to 34 rather than starting at 34. He has the talent but needs to make better plays and unfortuantely lacks creativity with the puck.

I will say that being in Boston I've also seen a lot of Heinen and am a huge fan of the signing. People out here wanted to come back and the guy is an elite bottom 6 player who you'll need on a deep cup run. Heinen has everything.

Sherwood I saw a lot of this past couple of years, and like most on this board, particularly so most recently in the playoffs. I am also a big fan and long time admirer of his abilities as another elite bottom 6 player that can move up the line up in a pinch.

Yeah I liked Heinen ever since he was in Dallas. He is a fast skater who is really strong on his skates.

I like Sherwood too.

Only hope for DeBrusk is that RT brings out the best in him consistently.

I just wonder if we did enough for our top 6.

Petey's play was rally concerning 2nd half. Im not convinced he can carry a line by himself.

I really love this signing.

I've watched DeBrusk quite a bit in the past when always hearing him tied to Vancouver and more recently when wanting Boston to beat Toronto and was very impressed with DeBrusk's very good skill level, good speed on the rush and forcheck, he has some size and a high compete level + also love that he's a Western Canadian and only 27.

I'm betting this turns out great for the Canucks and Debrusk because I bet he's extremely motivated to show Boston they F'd up not giving him a real chance he earned and for letting him go.

Ha looks like his dad will now be cheering for the Canucks lol

As much as Petey & the team denies it, I have to believe he was playing with an injury.  Just my belief/speculation.

I have no issues with this SIGNING, think its GREAT!!!! but i do feel, he isnt the right person for EP40, the ones who were already signed eslewere, but unless we make a trade, this is what we got for EP40 so guess we hope for the best, worse case he plays with miller/boeser etc

Or Boeser can move to Pettersons line and Debrusk can play with Miller.

In reality, even though we lost Zadorov and Cole, Juulsen was the guy who was our Zadorov replacement. Couldn't get into the lineup most nights so it's not as big of a loss from physicality standpoint. We lose out on Zadorov's offense but we gain from the upgrades on forward. This also gives room for Willander to move in next year and gives our defensemen on the farm a chance to make big club.

Yes the deal is a couple of years too long, but it definitely improves the team and makes our forward group more complete, with how fast he is and how good of a shot he has his numbers should boost playing along side either of Miller or Pettersson.

Agreed price is what was expected, I was surprised to see 7 years though. Excited to see what he can do with Petey.

Juulsen would have been Cole's replacement.  But having a solid #7 is pretty important too. We were lucky this past year that we didn't have a lot of injuries on D like previous years.  With less depth and more injuries on D, we're not a playoff team.  None of our guys from the minors are ready to play at the level of our 2023-4 D.

Nice to get two players who played the in your face Bruins hockey style.

Big Z will be their next mini Chara
