Big and tough and his game could take a big step under Foote's coaching. I think that's the hope with Forbort and Desharnais, that Foote and Gonchar can get the best out of them. They're definitely depth guys, and it keeps Myers in the top 4, but they'll be tough to play against. Fingers crossed.

Forbort and Desharnais better not be in the top four, because that's just going to be a disaster. Defense still needs a lot of work, I'm not sure what Allvin and Rutherford's thinking is behind their defense. Another signing or a trade is bound to be in the works right? They still need a top four defenseman

RolexSub
Good pick up price but he is no where near Big Z's toughness, speed and skills. He didn't play much during the Stanley Cup final vs Panthers. He didn't play enough speed and wasn't hitting. Hence probably why Oilers didn't want to resign him. And Big Z is a total Playoff built player. But let's hope Tock's can work some magic and get him where he needs to be more effective!!! Edited July 1 by RolexSub

Not much different than what we started the year with...except we're missing Riley Stillman & Ian Cole. Now we have Forbort & Desharnais. It's ok, but knowing injuries happen I'm not as happy with the depth. Could be worse, so we'll see how the preseason goes for some chemistry. Total cap space including max LTIR usage would be about 3.3m. Either a puck moving defenseman, or a middle-6 20 goal scoring forward
JeremyCuddles
Was unimpressed with him personally, but Edmonton did have a historically great PK in the playoffs that he was apart of. So there may be some underlying stuff I just missed. Forbort/Desharnais at the very least will be hard to play against. Not sure how good this blueline is at skating, outside of Huggy and Hronek though. So do they try play Desharnais with Huggy for a few? I just don't really understand the allergies to d-men who can skate. Would rather have tried out Boqvist. Oh well. I think the gameplan will be win 2-1 or 3-2.
Rick_theRyper
Honest answers only how is the skating ability with Desharnais and Forbort? I know they're big and can fight that's definitely the most of what stood out for me when they were playing against us.

Trade, Trade + retention, and believe it or not there are still some UFA options, and they might end up much more affordable as teams continue to spend all their remaining $ I was a huge fan of how they got Suter on such a bargain by just waiting it out and having money to spend when everyone else had shot their wad

The reason I dont like Desharnais is the times i saw him get walked (gap control) and a couple of truly egregious turnovers. But if Foote and Gonchar could fix Myers... 1

I don't remember much of forbort but being a bottom guy tough will fight. Desharnais seem to be a good addition to Edmontons D, watched him a bit during Edm and Florida. But didnt stand out much really seemed solid but slow and big gets burned nowadays.

I got thrown the same shit last season for being level headed into FA and we had our best season in over a decade. Still not concerned despite the whining and shit throwing today. This is a well balanced lineup and man are Heinen and DeBrusk ever a pain in the dick to play against. Ask Höglander about Forborts battles too. Exactly this. Agree wholeheartedly. Beyond the usual emotional overreactions, this was a good day and good rebound by management to address our needs. A good, methodical, restrained and precise approach by management. Not flashy but improvements were made. And I'm confident Desharnais will get better under Foote and Gonchar in the same way Myers did. Forbort only 2 inches shorter and 30 lbs lighter, and Desharnais is huge. 6'7 235. We are bigger than last year overall. Not a big difference without Z to be honest. Good move by Allvin and Co. That contract for Z is not going to age well and we'll see how effective he even is in Boston.

Just one thing to bear in mind Big Z was pretty good at skating the puck out, and he was the only defenseman in our bottom-4 who had any kind of puck moving ability Forbort and Desharnais have none So I'm hoping we can use whatever remaining cap space we have to get someone like Kylington. Dr. Crossbar
Another thing that I'm looking at is the fact that Desharnais learned a lot from Coffey in Edmonton. Now he'll be learning from Foote and Gonchar. That's gold for any Dman. Foote and Gonchar will help him be more physical without being a liability.
