Something we will not have to see this coming season. Least I hope not !!!!!!!!!!!!

Dudes built to fight !

Lets get him skating/ training hard and unlock something more positive in his game  AS well .

He is fearless enough ,  that mindset can be powerful.

This organization is challenging all players to work outside of their comfort zones ..

I think Vinny will embrace the attention he is about to get from all Coaches and Trainers here.
Especially RickT

Deharnais

114 NHL games 180 hits 170 blocks

In the playoffs he only had 8 hits in 28 games. I'm sure he was injured which reduced his hitting.

I'd say the important thing right now is getting him to work with the trainers to work on his weaknesses. Skating, fitness, skills and passing. Things Gonchar and Foote can layout for him. I think there will be upside that the coaches have probably already talked about.

Guys like Vinny that are fearless are compensating for not getting played or trained better to advance their game and skillset .    They get “musically plugged” into holes behind others that get all the attention.

This culture change here is embracing all players and trying to create symmetry for all.

I think Vinny will at least get to that Aaron Rome type level and become quicker , and tighten gaps well.

With all the hubbub I sometimes forget we managed to keep Joshua as well.

Sherwood’s not a great fighter but he’s pretty scrappy in the ones I saw. He “lost” as per hockey fights but always got a few shots in.

I would say our overall tough-to-play-against is up from last year if we’re looking at forecheck, hits, board battles, fighting, etc.

I watch a lot of Oilers games. He's like a Zadorov lite, with less physicality in terms of blowing guys up. Protects the net well, will stick up for teammates, is sometimes inconsistent and has defensive gaffs like Zadorov, isn't a great puck mover, isn't as fast as Zadorov but can defend okay.

His price tag is fair but could be a steal with our system and the way we get guys to defend.

Agree to all of this.

I also got a few years of watching him in the AHL as well. He’s fought hard to get where he’s got.

I’m excited to see if the coaching staff can take him to another level this year.

If they can turn him from a 6/7 D to a 5/6 full time D. That’s everything this team needs right now.

It’s all about “Waiting for Willander”

…sounds like a movie title 😏

It’s the poor man’s choice to replace Zadorov.

That is well said. Plus as others have stated with the coaching he will receive from the Canucks defensive specialists Desharnais's play will only improve.

I agree. I do believe Vinny has a couple more levels he can take his game to with Foote mentoring him.

I also think people are being too quick to write off Juulsen as just a depth guy. I really liked the way he took his overall game to another level last year. He actually reminded me a lot of Aaron Rome, "late" hits and all, lol. He's a perfect injury replacement that would be a full time dman on a lot of teams.

I think Juulsen and Vinny could be in for one heck of a battle for the 6th spot.

This is an attribute of an organization that is going to be its strength, because they're going to push players to be more than they are. Desharnais included.

I asked a hardcore Oilers fan what we were getting, he told me they call him “The Swamp Monster “ in Edmonton.
The guy is a monster and he skates like he’s running in a swamp.
(But vastly improved the last 2 seasons)

fans were sad to see the toughest guy on the team go.

Wonder if he can continue to make progress on his skating, getting more power and quickness to it.

I doubt they put Forbort and Desharnais together.

You need one D man on each pair that can skate the puck out of danger. That’s not their game.

The way it stands right now:

Hughes Hronek

Forbort Myers

Soucy Desharnais

They need another D that can move the puck that’s pretty obvious. Could be a righty or lefty doesn’t really matter.

I'm willing to bet that Oliver Kylinton will eventually be signed as a Canuck. 27-year-old with comeback potential. It could be a good buy-low option.

Need a top 4 left handed defencemen. Would set our team up for the playoffs this season and next season.

Hughes - Hronek

TRADE - Willander

Soucy - Myers/Desharnais

Didn’t he have a great regular season anyways.

Tbo didn’t really pay attention to him until playoffs thought he was ok,pretty solid compared to Nurse and  I know that’s not saying a lot just think he could be a good fit with our coaching staff
