Forbort only 2 inches shorter and 30 lbs lighter, and Desharnais is huge. 6'7 235. We are bigger than last year overall. Not a big difference without Z to be honest. Good move by Allvin and Co. That contract for Z is not going to age well and we'll see how effective he even is in Boston.

I think we got a little bit better, in some good ways. The F group is better for sure, d maybe a bit of a work in progress to start the year? but I like the chances of Foote doing his thing.

With McGroarty wanting out due to no pathway and allegedly Brzutewicz wanting out for similar reasons, were Forbert and Desharnais the targets as they don't pose any "threat" to Willander?

Brzustewicz is a PP specialist offensive defenseman. He knew he had no chance to take Quinns gig. The depth was never the issue.

Not thrilled losing Big Z I see it as an overpayment I personally would have taken but I'm a Nucks fan...That being said I am NOT a GM in the NHL.

I like the size of the back end in Desharnais, Forbert andSoucy. I think we lost overall toughness but I trust the management group.

In my mind the Mikeyev signing was not right from day 1 but that is the only move I have strongly disliked. I was on board with Millsy over Horvat and I liked the Number Hronek came in at... EP40's latests deal concerns me but I trust as I said this group.

We can't keep everyone I feel like they've addressed the overall D the best they could have early on on the offseason. We aren't done.

GO CANUCKS GO!!

PA has built some depth on the backend. There will be serious compete in the fall camp. I don't see Freidman or Juulson going anywhere so PA will have some defenders he can move in October. The Canuck war room today must have been a sight to see. I can imagine that Foote gave a thumbs up on the Desharnais signing. I don't take his play in Edmonton as the final commentary on his game. Oilers defense was often a gong show. Canucks have far more structure and he could flourish here.

I’m happy to bring in another big body in defense.
Vinnie is plus 18 in his 114 game NHL career. But only +3 last year. I think he’ll do even better here.

How is HB’s lower lip hanging today? Flames drafted Parekh 9th overall and another defence man,Henry Mews, in round 3.
Guess Hunter’s not getting the keys to the bus in Cowtown either.

If gonchar and foote can make forbort and deharnais 30% better, thats a win for us big time. The key is their term, theyre not albatrosses which will bite us in the long run but good enough short term

Just some numbers....

Out the door on June 30/24:

1. Elias Lindholm Boston 7/$7.75M increase from $4.85M

2. Nikita Zadorov Boston 6/$5M increase from $4.85M

3. Sam Lafferty Buffalo 2/$2M increase from $1.12M

4. Ian Cole Utah 1/$3.1M increase from $3M

5. Casey deSmith Dallas 3/$1M decrease from $1.8

Total cap hit value for the 24/25 season = $18.85M

Added on July 1

1. Jake DeBrusk. 7/$5.5M increase from $4M

2. Danton Heinen, 2/$2.25M increase from $775K

3. Keifer Sherwood, 2/$1.5M increase from $775K

4. Derek Forbort, 1/$1.5M decrease from $3M

5. Vincent Desharnais, 2/$2M increase from $762K

Total cap hit value for the 24/25 season = $12.75M

I think we all knew that the priorities were a scoring forward to play with Petey, some speed and two way play in the bottom six, and size and depth at defence. I find it amazing that for the same cost of two guys (Lindholm at 7.75 and Zadorov at 5) Vancouver signed FIVE players for exactly the same amount of money. Major props to the Rutherford-Allvin and Company crew. And they have some money left over if a hot deal pops up.

I prefer depth for the money.

Good post. Nicely stated. Zadorov was actually $3.75m though, increase of $1.25m. I think ... is that right?

PA said when VD talked with Foote they both felt like he had another step to go.

VD also said that the fans passion during the VAN/EDM season helped attract him here.

This guy is a late bloomer and will be playing his 3rd season with us. 2nd full season. If the coaching staff can find another gear which isn’t outside the realm of possibility then we have our Joshua on D. Potentially a 4/5 D.

Man....that is an unfortunate set of initials....

Not as bad as Bob Johnson, but still pretty bad....:classic_unsure:

Hopefully not. He's a massive defensive liability and would be subtraction via addition.  No more defencemen who can't play defence.

You said that about every Oiler D man despite them being one of the best defensive teams in the playoffs. 🤣

Schultz is a two time cup winner. And he wouldn’t even have to be that good anymore if he was paired with Hughes. He could level him up.

The Canucks should start training  camp next week and get a head start

Pretty sure the CBA prohibits it...

.........doesn't preclude the possibility of players informally gathering themselves to practice though. :classic_ninja:

(Just that coaches can't be there)

Having speedy forwards that can forecheck and backcheck well definitely helps out the D.

I think that’s one of the reasons why we went out and got faster forwards. To help out the transition game on both ends.

He'd still have to at least play at an acceptable level in his zone.  He has never shown any indication that he's capable of doing so.  He's another Pouliot/Larsen/Hunt/Del Zotto.
