JEG: Contract announcement-

Client - Tyler Motte

Team - TampaBay Lightning  image.jpeg.ae4040bfdd30fb66d73b4449ff743efa.jpeg

Contract - 3 years at 925k avv (2.775M)

Client statement-

Mr. Motte is very ecstatic to be on a cup contending team for the next three seasons. Mr. Motte was very appreciative to the fact that the Lightning offered him a three year deal and provide him job security. Something Mr. Motte has not had in several years after a series of one year deals coming into this season. Mr. Motte hopes to provide Tampa with a more stable penalty kill in a bottom six role.

JEG: Contract announcement-

Client - Erik Johnson

Team - Toronto Maple Leafs image.jpeg.6e2d4500532c284f2095f563791acb90.jpeg

Contract - 2 years at 1.6M avv (3.2M)

* NTC for year 1.

Client statement-

Erik Johnson is excited to spend his remaining years in Toronto and hopes to be a part of the solution that gets Toronto back into the playoffs. Despite having offers from teams who finished higher in the standings Erik decided to go with stability, ice time and a higher compensation as this will likely be his final contract. Already having won a cup with St. Louis in 2019 has made this an easier and clearer choice.

The Dallas Stars today announced what was expected by most fans and press gallery insiders. Troy Terry will retain the Captian's "C" for the second season of the GFL.

His alternates, the young multi-talented Assistants Luke Hughes and Quinton Byfield will also retain the "A" on their chest for Dallas.

Quote

We didn't think we needed to say it, nothing has changed with regards to our leadership group on the ice and in the room. In fact, the letters on the sweaters are all this comes down to. We have a room full of leaders and it shows through. These leaders with or without the official designation are about to propel us into contention, as we have tinkered very little with the formula instead relying on our inaugural plan of letting players mature into the jobs we hired them for.
Nico Sturm will help to shore up our fourth line, and Jean-Luc Foudy, brought in with the same trade with Ottawa has taken steps over the summer to move him closer to a Big League look, and Pierre Luc Dubois who was recently acquired via the waiver wire is a natural addition to my "pillars" strategy. He joins Filip Forsberg, captain Troy Terry, Tomas Hertl, Seth Jones and Darnell Nurse as our highly productive, top end talent, long tenured yet economical Pillars of our club. Everything we are building has been planned around the foundational pillars. When PLD was put on waivers, we had to contain our excitement as there were 3 teams ahead of us in the wavier order who 'could' have benefitted from claiming him and had the magical ingredient of cash to claim him inside the cap. Fortunately, we got him, and that decision pretty much wrapped up our offseason acquisitions. I think a lot of teams were sleeping on the dream of signing him cheap, post buy-out. We think PLD is going to slot in here seamlessly to the core and help mentor our young guns, the second component of the "pillars" plan. Quinton Byfield, Arturs Silovs and Luke Hughes will almost certainly take the next steps towards stardom in the GFL while our incubator down at the Texas Stars farm team ripens our stable of talent. I am a happy GM, and content now to take this team into the season.
There are of course some camp battles yet to play out as we look to fill some holes. We lost out on the services of Mikael Backlund in a bidding war that probably saved me from veering off the plan too much, but that leaves money in the cap and room on the team for some of our depth to grab the ring and move their careers forward during the next week or so.
It is an exciting time to be a fan of the GFL's Dallas Stars. Get your tickets before they are gone. Every five tickets sold will come with a voucher for the "Darryl Sydor Breakfast": a beer and a hotdog for all five seats. Offer expires once the puck drops on the season!

Buffalo Sabres Captaincy group:

IMG_5852.png.e41c22f619acc3aed6ba4e5fb0e17c5b.png

Captain- Matvei Michkov

This will be Matvei’s rookie season after coming over from the KHL earlier than excepted this past summer. However what Matvei lacks in experience Matvei more than makes up for in hardwood and potential. Despite taking over for league MVP Nathan Mackinnon after a blockbuster trade during the offseason we here at Buffalo believe Matvei is ready for the leadership role. Even if this year has the possibility of being a disappointing stat year under a Torts lead team we believe building the tenure for future years will be worth the return when Buffalo plans on being playoff contenders.

Assistant captains- Jake Sanderson / Teuvo Teravainen

This will be Jakes second year in a leadership position last year Jake lead all Sabres defencemen in average ice time (23.13) and points (277.25). Jake continues to show leadership off and on the ice and was an easy decision to bring back to the leadership group.

This will be Teuvo’s first year with the Sabres and his first year as part of the leadership group. Teuvo was brought into Buffalo during the offseason for this exact reason. It’s no secret that Buffalo has committed to the full rebuild over the past year and as a result Buffalo has one of the youngest franchises in GFL history this upcoming season. Teuvo brings with him wisdom, guidance and NHL/GFL experience that he hopes to provide to a young Sabres team. Teuvo has over 650 regular seasons games and 90 playoff games something Teuvo hopes to add to before his time in Buffalo comes to end.

Vancouver Canucks Update

image.png.cff60bb2004df62fbff0418dd20f3545.png

TEAM CAPTAINS

C - Jack Hughes

A - Anze Kopitar

A - Matt Duchene

Vancouver is very pleased with our offseason up to this point. We have poached 2 key veterans from the defending champions, and divional foe Vegas Golden Knights in Kopitar & Duchene. Both will bring some much needed experience to our young group as we look to make some big improvements on last year's disappointing 32nd place finish. It was so bad we weren't even in the running for Celebrini. This year we come in with the hopes of competing for a playoff spot. It will be a tough feat to pull off going from dead last to playoffs, but feel if we can add a couple more key depth pieces, and have 2-3 young guys step up their game, it could be enough to help us make some noise this year. With Maxim signing with us we feel we now have our top6/top 4 all locked up and its just a matter of finding the right depth to add around the team. Could see us running with a 21 man team rather than a 23 man team to start the year with cap constraints, but we will see.

We have our eyes set on the long term, but if we see ourselves fighting for a playoff spot in February you may see us active in the trade market. We feel we are still 2-3 years away from true contention, but are willing to try and speed things up if the cards end up falling in the right places in the first half of the season.

The Maple Leaf's are proud to announce their leadership team for the upcoming season. As the organization continues to build toward success, the leadership group will be instrumental in guiding the team both on and off the ice.

Nathan MacKinnon has been named the Captain of the Maple Leaf's. As a cornerstone of the team, MacKinnon’s work ethic, skill, and commitment to excellence have earned him the respect of both teammates and coaches. Entering his [insert number] season with the club, MacKinnon will lead the team with the same determination that has made him one of the league’s premier players.

Serving as Alternate Captains, the team is also excited to announce Clayton Keller and Mackenzie Weegar. Keller, at 26, is entering the prime of his career and has consistently been one of the most dynamic forwards in the league. His leadership by example will inspire the younger players and set the tone for the team's offensive efforts.

On the defensive side, Mackenzie Weegar will wear the "A." Known for his versatility and leadership on the blue line, Weegar brings experience and poise to the defensive corps. His contributions both offensively and defensively have solidified his role as a key figure in the team’s success.

I think after free agency I'll take a gander at how many players I was bridesmaid with. Going to be a high number lol. Lucky for me I got Kubalik early in FA.. who then signed in Europe.

It's you and me Jack Rosolvic, you're my shining prize in FA.

Edit. 28 lol. I've inquired about 28 players. Clearly I need to work on my negotiating skills. Also I guess not coming 5th last could help...

JEG: Contract announcement-

Client - AJ Greer

Team - Carolina Hurricanes

Contract - 2 years at 1.1M avv (2.2M)

image.jpeg.da7da674e2d67bf301edb7cd9036776e.jpeg
Client statement-

AJ couldn’t be more excited to join the Carolina Hurricanes. Despite being offered more term and a higher avv. AJ decided to bet on himself taking a two year deal over a three year option. Despite being injured on two different occasions over the last two seasons AJ found himself as an everyday regular playing a consistent bottom six role. AJ feels being on a cup contender will provide him a better chance to showcase his skills with better skilled line-mates and a chance to showcase in the playoffs.  Ideally leading to a better demand in his next round of contract talks in his next ufa go around 2 years from now at the age of 29.
