Considering you're allowed to exceed the cap by 10% in the offseason, they could match the offer and figure our how to get compliant over the next few months

Still screws them either way 🤷‍♂️

Only if he's willing to sign the offer sheet. Even then they can most likely deal with getting under the cap pretty easily

We’d be doing Hughes - and this team - a disservice if we were to make Desharnais Quinn’s season-long partner.

Many posters complain about not getting the most out of Pettersson due to his line mates. We’d essentially be sentencing Hughes to the same fate if we paired him with low-quality defensemen.

I mean nothing is set in stone but it's worth a shot.  Stats on paper are only half the battle, there's lots of intangibles that go in to a good pairing.

The problem with EP40 was for whatever reason he wasn't propping up his crap linemates.

Hughes can and has done that before so it's not a huge leap.

Willander may be ready next year (but 26/27 is more probable) and we have D-Petey and Kudryatsev chomping at the bit who could be ready at the same time (though also the year after is probably better).  We just need something that works for a year or two that's all.

With age of Broberg right now, and the age corridor of this team , he would be the perfect “in between “ of our present D core , and the one following.

That includes Willander and D Pettersson.

I think a prospect and 2nd rnd pick gets him if he isn’t signing in EDM.

too much considering Edmonton's cap issues.

its the spleen, right? tell me its the spleen.

Florida/Vegas syndrome. 😁

Bigger question is who is Washington putting on LTIR?

They are over the cap by almost $9.5 million. Or is it for certain they are making sure Backstrom is out until the playoffs at least?

Just buys them more time but ultimately they’ll have to move out cap.

I doubt any team is gonna wanna take on Kane at this point.

Definitely not at 5.2m.....no one wanted him at League minimum!

The report after the playoffs was that he had a sports hernia. If he is not back by Xmas, then they are milking it.

The league needs to get rid of the LTIR BS...it should only be available for guys like Poolman; basically career or season over. I'd revise the wording to not allow the player back in the playoffs UNLESS there is ample cap space for his contract. The fact that it has been constantly abused by a few teams in a black eye to the league; shoulda been dealt with just like the contract recapture thing once the abuse was noted.

The simple solution to that is the on ice cap should not exceed the average on ice cap throughout the season by say 2-4% and cannot exceed the cap of the year

The front loading of contracts was dealt with when the cba was renegotiated. There hasn't been a new round of cba negotiations since the worst of the ltir abuse has taken place.  It'll be interesting to see how it's adressed in the next cba

so basically they told kane they'll buy him out unless he waits and drag out the hernia injury and wait till almost training camp before doing a surgery?.. if he needed surgery.. then you get opinion and get it done right after the finals? not wait till training camp?

I think Alvin even mentioned the LTIR being a handicap.

Alot of teams and fans dont realize that using LTIR for an injured player negates accruing cap space for guys that miss a few games, or are press boxed a few games.

LTIR means you only get the cap from that player.

Avoiding LTIR means you accumilate everyone's missed daily cap. I love to see Oilers mis-manage Capoligy. Without CapFriendly they are all screwed ha ha Islanders smarter than everyone thought.

Thats a little harsh.

if your neighbour is Islam and believes God told him to marry a 13 year old, are you guilty because you said Hi to him everyday? Boosted his dead battery in -39 degrees? Why would you think they all knew what happened right beside them, you dont know what is happening right here in Canada.

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing.
