We would be thrilled with this outcome. Our 5-year rebuild started just before the 2020 Entry Draft where we took Yaroslav Askarov with our first selection #8 OA. We are ahead of schedule and are looking forward to challenging the CDCFL Cup in the near future. Young Mr. Askarov is expected to take a bigger role next season at the NHL level. We are excited for his consistent NHL presence as we look forward! And it was clear that there were more sellers than buyers, so we may not have received as much for rentals as teams had in previous years. However, we were still able to move pretty much everyone we intended to, and felt we received a solid haul for them in return. (* indicates pending UFA): Out: Evander Kane*, Chandler Stephenson*, Jani Hakanpaa, Carson Soucy*, Nicolas Deslauriers, Calvin Pickard*, Pierre Engvall, Luke Schenn*, Filip Nordberg In: Claude Giroux, Trevor Moore, Connor Clifton, Lars Eller, Kaapo Kahkonen, Zachary L'Heureux, Filip Bystedt, Emil Andrae, Elliot Desnoyers, Evan Nause, 2024 COL 4th, 2024 WPG 4th, 2024 NJD 5th In addition to the moves we made earlier, we feel that we have transitioned to a much younger core, with a far deeper prospect pool (but with more work to do on both those aspects before contending again.) In the meantime, we have no intention of bottoming out, or tanking for lottery picks. How next season goes will depend on how our core players perform, and if some of our younger players can step up and fill new roles. I'm looking forward to seeing how it pans out.
