CDCFL FREE AGENT PRIMER

Tomorrow (July 1st) is the first day to send in free agent offers! The finalized free agent lists (for players previously signed to CDCFL contracts) can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13vYxZEnlsQCqHrGnCMe2K1sKRv9ZU4uwLCpgnMhj2XQ/edit?gid=555877513#gid=555877513

The period for teams to send in their initial free agent offers will be from July 1st to July 5th. Beginning on July 6th, signings may potentially occur, but more likely, negotiations will begin. There is no advantage gained or penalty for sending in free agent offers on July 1st or July 5th, all offers will be weighted equally beginning on July 6th. This allows for GMs to see what develops in the first few days of NHL Free Agency.

During the July 1st to 5th time period, I will be going "rogue" as the agent. I will not look at any of the offers sent to me via PM nor will I be answering any questions teams may have about any particular players interest/availability.

A few other notes on Free Agency:

Sending in Free Agent Offers

Please send one offer per PM on CDC, with the players name in the title of the message. This enables me to easily find offers while in negotiations. Keep in mind for free agents that are in demand, a small pitch may be required to give the player an idea of where they fit in your organization in the short and long-term. Any offers that do not follow this template will be deleted/ignored.

Order of Signings

Players who are the highest in demand are more likely to sign earlier than players who have less demand. The hope from a player agent perspective is the trickle down effect will result in increased quantities of offers for the lesser demanded players from the teams that lose out on the higher demanded players.

Player Asking Prices

In free agency, most players will let their offers determine their market value. With that being said, all players have a general idea of how much they should be worth. If this value is not met, players will not be afraid to hold out for what they feel is appropriate.

Priority Lists

Unless absolutely necessary, please refrain from sending in priority lists and offers to multiple players with the intentions to only sign one.

Any other questions, feel free to reach out!

Well we've been working the proverbial phones pretty aggressively trying to move out a forward to make room to add to the defensive depth. Came close on a couple things but nothing seems to quite make sense. Coming into the summer we had two areas of need: we wanted to add an established top six left winger and a depth defenseman or two. Fortune smiled on us when our top six winger appeared on waivers prior to free agency even starting, but we're now flush out of cap space, so unless something changes it looks like this will be the lineup we start the season with:

Artturi Lehkonen - Anze Kopitar - Mark Stone

Jeff Skinner - Anthony Cirelli - Matt Duchene

Trent Frederic - Ross Colton - Michael Amadio

Warren Foegele - Sam Steel - Kieffer Sherwood

Paul Cotter, Jimmy Vesey

Victor Hedman - Devon Toews

Esa Lindell - Brent Burns

Darren Raddysh - Ian Mitchell

Sergei Bobrovsky

Logan Thompson
