so how much do you think is going to be shaved from total management compensation?

I'd like to see the tax raised to the point they're making no more than $4M a year.

Not saying I know just was an observation/remark on the situation.

Just that the younger generations like mine are gonna somehow have to turn dog shit into chocolate cake to make the most of these times.

Younger generations like yours need to get FAR less complacent and stop blaming everything on the government du jour (or waiting for them to fix things for you). Between a global aging population crisis and climate change, this was ALWAYS going to be a difficult period for younger generations economically. Covid just pressed the FF button.

You need a massive shift in pay especially as @Gurn already noted above, to reduce the income gap between rich and poor. Unionization, organized mass general strikes etc. Large corporations and their CEO's aren't willingly just going just hand you the record profits they've been siphoning off all of our backs. The NDP suggesting taxing the rich/CEO's and/or capping profits etc is just dumb. Those taxes just get passed along to the consumers again at your existing, comparatively shrinking wages.

Correspondingly, you need to be happy to pay taxes on those higher wages you're now making so that we can fund things like health care, education, climate change initiatives, infrastructure, your future CPP etc, etc. And you need to be more politiically active to ENSURE those things happen with YOUR tax dollars.

You also, and perhaps most importantly, need a HUGE shift in purchasing habits. INSIST on buying local/domestic goods that support local/domestic economies and workers. Buy only from companies that support fair trade, treat/pay their workers and well, and minimize their environmental impacts. STOP THE RACE TO THE BOTTOM.

OK, but don't expect it to mean much to the average worker, there just aren't that many top exec's in Canada.

To me this is one of those misdirection arguments, it feels good to go after them, by all means go for it. But it won't do much.

the most important part of this, imo, is the purchasing decision. Where and what you buy will have by far the biggest impact. The CEO stuff is just a feel good thing, there's not enough $ involved to have any real impact on your plate.

I really don't think people realize how massive of a shift we can create by "voting with our wallets". But too many people, are addicted to too much cheap crap, made by near slave labour, in developing countries, then shipped half way around the world and soon sent to a landfill while sitting their complaining about our economic race to the bottom, jobs, affordability climate change etc...with nary a hint of irony.

thats why the whole Loblaws protest thing just made me laugh, because one of the organizers of that suggested going to Walmart instead :picard:

What you are talking about is the work people need to do, figure out where their $ makes the most impact. But I guess it's easier to complain about CEOs. Who do make too much, but otoh its a public company likely paying a dividend to your pension fund, so dunno, figure out where to put your energy I guess.

I love it when stupid people try to score political points with someone else's fatal misfortune.  :picard:

BC United MLA alleges NDP to blame for ‘traffic chaos’ after deadly motorcycle crash Wednesday

A BC United MLA is taking a lot of heat online after posting a TikTok about a fatal crash just outside the Massey Tunnel earlier this week.

Teresa Wat, MLA for Richmond North Centre, posted a video to the social media app, apparently assigning blame to the NDP provincial government for the “traffic chaos” following a collision that killed a motorcyclist Wednesday morning.

Standing above the entrance to the tunnel, Wat says that if her party had been allowed to complete a planned expansion, the situation might not have played out the same way.

“The previous B.C. government started building the 10-lane George Massey Bridge when we were in government. Yet the NDP government has now cancelled this bridge project when they took power in 2017,” said Wat.

“The 10-lane bridge would have opened in 2022 — that would not create such a big traffic chaos, arising from this traffic accident.”

Comments under her video have not been kind to Wat, with many suggesting that her message is in “poor taste.”

“Really? You use someone’s tragedy to promote yourself? Shame,” said one reply.

“Unbelievably bad taste! She could have used any day in rush hour to send the same message. BC United is so out of touch,” said another.

The early morning fatal collision on Highway 99 killed a motorcyclist, the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) confirmed Wednesday.

In a follow-up statement, the BCHP says the motorcyclist “ran into a car, and the motorcyclist fell onto the roadway.”

“The motorcyclist was critically injured by the rear wheels of a semi-truck and tragically has passed away,” Corp. Melissa Jongema said.

Police had closed most northbound lanes for multiple hours to investigate the collision, which happened around 6:15 a.m. By 2:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, callers to CityNews said the lanes had reopened.

Wat, apparently reporting before then, said the lanes were completely closed, but “under the BC United Government, we will fix it.”

She should have stayed in journalism.  At least she'd retain some credibility if she did.  Instead, she chose to spoil her journalistic legacy by politicking.  What a goof.

What a coward Dix is. Allowing Providence to continue to deny MAID in its facilities is ridiculous, we all pay for those services, but he's bowing to the god boys. What religious group will they pander to next?

Something similar happened at Delta Hospice a few years back. There was a hostile takeover by a right wing maga style nut job whose whole purpose was to remove maid services from the facility. A bunch of residents became members to vote her out but memship was opened up worldwide and there were people speaking from as far away as Australia and the middle east at the general meeting. Needless to say we lost thanks to the interests of religious foreign nationals that had no business being there. Dirty fricken politics. The government eventually stepped in and ultimately restored order but a lot of people suffered at a very difficult time in their lives. Nothing can change that now.

Okay guys, you have to start capitalizing MAID....

Here I was wondering WTF some MAGA style nut job would care if there were maids cleaning up at the facility....:picard:
