Let's see.

They've built numerous hospitals.  Have added more Doctors and nurses than any other province over the same time.  Green lit new developments faster than anyone expected and forced municipalities to accept infill housing and cut the red tape so nimbyists can't complain

The NDP can not you say?  Interesting as so much if what you're claiming action happened and got ridden to the extreme under the former liberals that are now the Rustad conservatives

But whatever

Exactly, the only hospital the former Liberal (Socred, Conservative, Reform) Party built or started was St Pauls, and that's stretching it for them. In fact how many hospitals were closed or turned into triage centers in the Province under the Campbell/Clark debacle? My hometown is one of them. Just in the Lower Mainland alone since 2017 we've seen RCH, Burnaby General, Surrey Memorial, Richmond I believe is in the plans, and St Pauls. They've started a Medical School at the Surrey SFU campus, to begin another option to train doctors in BC.

Bouds, on the big reason there's a health professional shortage in this Country and around the world is because of the anti vaxxers and conspiracists of the world. At least once a day they pop up on this board. I remember early in the pandemic, the nurses and doctors were our heroes and people drove past hospitals and hung out of their apartments and stood on the streets at 7pm to salute them.

I heard that most nurses are out of the profession by age 35. Scary when my sister in law retired at 65, ten years ago. A neighbour of our worked as a nurse close to her 70's. I feel for small town BC, especially Merritt, as that's a huge part of a region that includes a major highway in this Province. The same could have been said for Princeton when the BC Libs closed the Princeton hospital's surgery ward. The do emergency's, etc. but are medi transported to Penticton.

John Rustad was part of those governments, say no more.

FWIW, there's a brand new hospital opening next month in Terrace. For those that don't know the area, Terrace is a bit of a hub. 2 and a half hours to Smithers in the east, 1 and a half hours here to PR and 40 minutes southwest to Kitimat.

The old hospital there was just that. Old. And not easy to find...

I dislike opinion columns.  Always have.  They're the biggest issue with media today.

But this one kind of does hit home a bit.

"Activity based funding" would essentially ruin and close small hospitals and care centres with larger rural areas but much smaller populations leaving large parts of the province without any care at all.  They say it is incentivizing hospitals to work faster and harder but what it is really doing is giving hospitals the green light to monetize patients and get them in and out as fast as possible.  Quebec has been doing this to some extent since around 2015/2016 and the actual success this individual touts is not exactly accurate at all.

Behind a paywall.

Meanwhile

THE NDP said on Wednesday that in the party leaders’ radio debate, BC Conservative Party Leader John Rustad rejected multiple opportunities to denounce his candidate Chris Sankey spreading the conspiracy theory that vaccines cause AIDS.

In the post-debate scrum, Rustad said “you’ll have to talk to Chris about that particular comment.” The NDP said that it’s unclear if Rustad will actually let Sankey answer media questions – but it seems unlikely.

Sankey has also not addressed his past claims that:

When pressed about his candidates’ views on vaccines later in the day at the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, Rustad said: “We have candidates that have a variety of views and I’m okay with that.”

Rustad has said he re-vetted his candidates – meaning either that is not true, or he was aware of Sankey’s view on “VAIDS” and still decided to keep him, the NDP said.

The NDP also noted that Rustad doubled down on his position that he’ll direct police not to enforce recent gun laws such as Bill C-21, which restricts semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15 and freezes handgun sales.

The NDP pointed out that although Rustad claimed he was talking about “law-abiding gun owners,” the assault-style weapons he is referring to are illegal – that’s the purpose of the law he has promised to not enforce. Rustad’s directive would not impact legal guns, but it would prevent police from seizing those illegal assault weapons.

I'd like to hear more of this from you folks in the Interior. As I've said in previous posts, everyone wants and needs hospitals, doctors, nurses, highways, bridges, and all other infrastructure, but they bitch and complain because there aren't enough of them. If those two plus years of a pandemic didn't teach us anything, then the human race is in serious trouble.

Forgot to mention, the road north to the Nass Valley (Nisga'a Territory) is also at Terrace.

As I've said before, I'm not complaining. Generally, I'm happy with the healthcare that I receive here in Prince Rupert. That being said, there are certain things that we have to travel for. I mentioned the Ophthalmologist earlier, but MRIs, Nuclear Cardiac testing and some surgeries require travel to Terrace. I also had to travel to Smithers once, (4 hours away) to see an ENT specialist.

For sure smaller towns do have their challenges especially for specialist appointments. My brother lives in Kelowna and he was just down to VGH to see an ENT specialist for his hearing. The Province is and has been working on all these issues, and as far as I can see, they can only do with what they have or haven't got. Every jurisdiction in the Country is dealing with these same issues. I heard Eby say that the Provinces have agreed not to poach health professionals in other Provinces.

They've added tonnes of doctors, nurses, schools to train more, new hospitals and hospital expansions after years of chronic under funding by the Liberals and against a sea of immigration. And you want a conservative government to undo much of that? Never mind what they've done to improve worker's rights.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Good luck trying to add doctors and nurses under Rustad with his views on Covid/vaccines/chemtrails/etc. One need only look one province over to see the effects of this nonsense…

Oh by the way…BC is expected to lead the country in wage growth for 2025 and Alberta has tumbled to last place with the lowest minimum wage in Canada.

B.C. NDP unveils election platform, focusing on 'tough challenges' — and John Rustad

The 65-page NDP platform mentions rival B.C. Conservative Leader John Rustad by name 56 times, compared with 29 times for New Democrat Leader David Eby.

New Democrat Leader David Eby has released his party’s British Columbia election campaign platform promising to find solutions to “today’s tough challenges” in the province.

The 65-page platform lists about $2.9 billion in what it calls new investments until 2027, while mentioning rival B.C. Conservative Leader John Rustad by name 56 times, compared with 29 times for Eby.

Among what the party says are new pledges are a $1,000-per-household grocery rebate, allowing pets in purpose-built rentals and free off-peak transit for seniors, while pledges that have already been unveiled include a middle-class tax cut.

The platform also forecasts reductions in revenue of more than $1.5 billion by 2027, mostly due to the tax-cut pledge.

Eby released the campaign platform, “An Action Plan For You,” on Thursday in Surrey.

It pledges to make life better for families, youth and older people.

“I hear you, and I see you,” says Eby in the platform document. “The challenges we are facing together are what drive me. And working to solve them is what gets me out of bed each morning.”

Other platform commitments include building 300,000 affordable homes, finding a family doctor for everybody in B.C., building more hospitals, ensuring safer streets by giving police more powers to fight gangs and creating good jobs by expanding training programs.

Eby also promised to ensure every public school has a mental health counsellor and to end bias against pet owners by getting rid of 'no-pet' clauses in purpose-built rental apartment buildings.

Rustad features heavily in the document, with breakout sections titled "What's the Rustad risk?"

The B.C. Conservative leader has announced several economic initiatives in recent days, and on Wednesday announced a plan to end the provincial insurance corporation's monopoly on basic vehicle insurance.

He said Thursday that this would bring in competition, drive down costs and improve services.

"Any time you've got competition, you're going to get the best prices," he said.

Rustad said ICBC has "lost its edge," but he still believed it could be competitive.

"(That's) why we want to build … competition and let ICBC be able to structure itself as competitively as possible so that we are seeing the best rates we can."

The Conservatives had already pledged to exempt people who suffer life-altering injuries in crashes from ICBC's no-fault insurance model, saying it's unfair to accident victims to curtail opportunities to sue for damages.

An equivalent to no-fault would remain in place for minor injuries, Rustad said.

"For major injuries, we will allow … an individual to have somebody to represent them and to fight for what they need to be able to recover fully," he said.

The Conservatives have also released a series of pledges related to infrastructure, transit and boosting the economy, including Rustad's promise to reintroduce a minister responsible for "red tape reduction."

"The key is we need to get to better management in this province. We need to be able to make sure that we unleash our potential," he told reporters on Thursday.

A statement from the Conservatives says they would eliminate B.C.'s nearly $9-billion deficit within two terms of government and require voter approval of any new taxes, through referendum or an election.

"There are times when government does need to go back to the taxpayer and ask for resources for specific things, but when that time comes, they should actually ask the taxpayer, the people in this province, for permission to be able to do that."

Rustad said the Conservatives would be rolling out announcements over the coming days and the party's complete platform would follow.

"If anybody could give me an accurate number of … what the NDP's deficit (is), I think that would be a great help in terms of how we could actually make sure it was fully and properly costed in terms of what we're doing," he added.

You know you are doing something right if Lululemon founder Chip Wilson puts a sign in front of his house calling you a communist.

The New Democrat government brought increased taxes on homes assessed at over $3 million in 2018 and has also increased income tax on the top two per cent of earners, moves Eby defended when asked about the sign Thursday.

"When you are so rich that the Red Hot Chili Peppers play your birthday party, it's possible to lose perspective. I would just say to Mr. Wilson, 'People are struggling out there, and we need to provide support to them," Eby said.

This popped up on my Facebook feed. Friggin loonies

Our MAGA BC Conservative slate. With Rustad himself saying Covid vaccinations were just about controlling the population, what will happen under his government if there is another pandemic.  Who will be his cabinet ministers given that he has recruited MAGA and Qanon conspiracy candidates?

Mike Harris, the BC Conservative candidate for Langford, claims it is possible to “kill” COVID-19 simply by “blowing a hair dryer up one’s nose.”

Sheldon Clare, the BC Conservative candidate for Prince George–North Cariboo, says Canada is like 1933 Germany and that he is “willing to commit insurrection.”

Jordan Kealy, the BC Conservative candidate in Peace River North,  claims there is a “government plan to eat bugs” and “control the weather.”

Bryan Tepper, the BC Conservative Surrey–White Rock candidate, has promoted the idea that the storming of the Capitol building in the US didn’t happen.

John Koury, the BC Conservative candidate for the Cowichan Valley, claims that Donald Trump actually won the last US election.

Harman Bhangu, the BC Conservative for Langley-Abbotsford, argues that the storming of the Capitol was done by “Antifa” dressed up as Trump supporters.  He criticized the Vancouver Canucks who wore pride-themed practice jerseys saying “There is nothing to be proud of.”

Kristina Loewen, the BC Conservative for Kelowna Centre, promotes far right conspiracy theories against a “UN world order.”

Chris Sankey, the BC Conservative candidate for North Coast–Haida Gwaii, claims that efforts to combat climate change  are a “depopulation conspiracy.”

Paul Ratchford, the BC Conservative candidate for Vancouver-Point Grey, supports calls for the arrest of Bonnie Henry. He says “Violent anti-social trans extremists increasingly define the [Pride] movement.” He has called for defunding the CBC.  He has called for defunding the University of BC because it hired a professor specializing in race and ethics.

Bryan Breguet, the BC Conservative candidate in Vancouver–Langara, attacks mothers who do not breastfeed by saying “You f–king decided to have a baby! Act as a f–king mother! Jesus Chris, get your priorities right.”

Rosalyn Bird, the BC Conservative candidate in Prince George-Valemount, promotes the idea that Pride supporters as “groomers” and that the government wants to “castrate kids.”

Tim Thielmann, BC Conservative candidate in Victoria–Beacon Hill, said it was “Gross” that people objected to a white supremacist daycare that advertised itself as a “whites-only” space for “proud parents of European children” looking to “escape forced diversity.”

Some interesting bits

"The promises include building the province's first addictions treatment centre specifically for construction workers, who make up one in every five overdose deaths."

I like this, having a treatment center geared towards what will frequently be blue collar workers

"Eby pledged to make sure every school has a mental health counsellor and that every classroom has a dedicated educational assistant to help children who are struggling."

I think the mental health counsellor bit is big too, being a teenager is rough

"For pet owners, the NDP promises to get rid of the no pet clause for purpose-built rental buildings."

I really like this, it's so much harder to find pet friendly rentals, more and more so the further south you go

"People who speed in luxury cars would also face higher speeding tickets, which would be priced based on the value of the car over $150,000."

I like larger fines for luxury vehicles, I'd personally drop it from 150k though

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/ndp-platform-promises-investments-in-schools-housing-mental-health-1.7341583#:~:text=For pet owners%2C the NDP,of the car over %24150%2C000.

That's like a total deal breaker for me.  Can't vote NDP now no matter what...   🤨

yup. Can’t vote for anyone in a party that calls themselves “new” democrats. Are they in some way better than the old democrats? Just sound like a loser party with a loser name. We need a “Booze” party. They’d won in a landslide. F U Boston!
