Pfft, I scored a hat trick playing against Peter Nedved then my wife (girlfriend at the time) shot him down, if that ain't HOF worthy I don't know what is.

Wait a tick, I remember nedved scoring his own hat trick against.. the dominator? Maybe?.. so the caveat to your hat trick, how old and how drunk was Nedved? 😆

Germany seems a tough team to beat, but they allowed 5 goals in 3 games, even Zambia scored on them.

I think Canada defence is better, and defence wins championships.

In any case, I’ll start morning with coffee and cognac .

GCG!

It was 1993 so he was in his prime but unfortunately for him so was I. Also pretty sure we were both sober and my gf/future wife was watching.

It has to be gold for Canada, anything else doesn’t make a good story.

But to be fair, the real story,  my wife was a live in nanny for someone high up in the Canucks who ran a weekly hockey game in the off season that I got to attend, it was mainly Canuck alumni, some lower league and once in a while current players. Nedved actually came out quite often and visited my wife’s boss and asked her out but she turned him down, we were dating at the time. In one game he was playing in I did get a hat trick, a pass went in of my helmet, a second of my ass and my third goal was actually a pretty impressive wrist shot.

Looking at Saturday's schedule, there's a bunch of events that sometimes overlap.  Here's a few that jumped out at me:

10 am - Women's Soccer quarter-final - Canada (#8) v Germany (#4).  I was looking at the tv schedule but couldn't figure out what channel this is going to be on.

11:30am Swimming Mens 100m Butterfly Final with Canadians Joshua Liendo & Ilya Kharum

12:01 pm Swimming Womens 200m Individual Medley with Canadians Summer McIntosh and Sydney Pickrem

12:20pm Athletics Women's 100m Final.   TBD if any Canadians in it.

12:34pm Swimming Mixed 4x100 Medley Relay Final   Canada has a team in it.

12:45pm Athletics Men's Decathlon 1500m.  Apparently the last event in the Decathlon.  We find out who the winner is.

Seems to me I'm going to be channel surfing on the tv while CBC gem is running on the ol' computer trying to keep track of things.

Thanks for doing this. Very helpful.

My wife just made me laugh, she suggested Bruce Jenner should have tried out for the women's decathlon team, probably still could have medaled.

I'm hoping that the O committee retroactively revokes Bruce's medals because he's not a man any more.

I see. Had to look it up. No Messi or Mbappe. No big stars.

"Not every men’s soccer player in the Olympics will be under 23 years old. Each country has up to three spots on the roster to grant to overage players.

Most notably, France was potentially going to use one this year on Mbappe — but his new club team, Real Madrid, would not allow him to compete in the Olympics."

Hope Morocco or Egypt takes it.

After Morocco destroyed the Yanks, I'm firmly on their bandwagon....

I’m old enough to remember Gregg Boddy dropping an f-bomb in the Canucks dressing room while doing a post game playoff interview on CKNW back in the 70’s. I don’t remember who they beat, but the interviewer sputtered and paused, and said Gregg we’re on live. Hilarious indeed, I couldn’t believe they played the interview the next day as well. I think it was on the Sunday afternoon Dave McCormick show at the time when NW did Canucks hockey. Robson and Larchied were the best.

I remember it well. The Canucks had just clinched a playoff spot for the first time and John McKeachie was doing the dressing room interviews with the players. I thought it was Gerry O'Flaherty that said, and I quote "Just a great fucking season". McKeachie mumbled something about being live on air, but it absolutely happened. Looking back, it may have been the first time I had ever heard that word on public air waves.

Edit: I did a little digging and the game was played April 4, 1975. With three games left in the season, Vancouver and St. Louis were tied for first place in the Smythe Division. St. Louis lost one and won their last two. Vancouver won their final three, finishing 2 points up on the Blues. Oh, and the game winning goal in a 4-1 win over Minnesota was scored by John Gould.

Anyone else remember Bobby Clarke calling referee Bruce Hood a "fucking queer" on HNIC? Pretty sure they dumped the mics at the players' benches after that....:classic_laugh:

😆 Just put him on a damn horse already.

Also...it's kind of hard not to love Simone Biles. GOAT status restored.

Read a story yesterday about Flava Flav and the guy who founded Reddit paying off one of Team USA's athletes rent for the year.

I think she's a discus thrower, or something like that.....apparently there isn't much money in it....
