They're all early morning events with the last event of the Olympics being the France/US Women's Basketball game at 6:30am. So Sunday is really just a day to wait for the closing ceremonies that start at noon PT. They're expected to last for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. The reason we had the Super Lotto was to help pay for the games. The 1976 Olympics lost $1.5 Billion dollars in 1976 money. And wasn't paid off until 2006. Best metric is probably a points system. Gold worth 3, Silver worth 2, Bronze worth 1 point or gold worth 5, silver 3, bronze 1 if you want to weigh actually winning more. I wouldn't normalize relative to country population, degree of sports participation is not constant, would probably normalize it with how many athletes a country send to the Olympics.
