The uSA killed China in the medal count by 40. Imo the Chinese are cheaters too. They do way better in women events, where cheating can make a big difference. It’s Very similar to the old eastern block stuff from years ago.

I don't know about cheating but I couldn't help but notice how unhappy many of the Chinese athletes seemed. Even many of the celebrations seemed performative, coaches and athletes alike.

Imo the Chinese cheat. The East Germans, Soviets, and Eastern block cheated. And now it’s the Chinese who cheat.
Didn’t Russia get caught for big time cheating? China is the same.

Just more advanced steroids that can’t be detected.

These countries see the Olympics as a way to flex their countries image, influence and power. The athletes are just tools for them to do that.

Canada cheated too, they all cheat, the real failure is getting caught.

Dude their athletes literally go into sporting schools beginning as early as elementary.

It is a different system compared to the west. They pump out athletes that literally dedicate their whole live to their sport.

You will have an advantage when the state funds everything from the start compared to other countries where you have to fund yourself for most of your training.

Just look at how Canada became more competitive after own the podium.

US benefits significantly from NCAA and is a big reason they are able to pump out their athletes.

Being funded plays way bigger of a reason and advantage for success.

Even US NBA guys don't like Lyles.

I mean Lyles not wrong there.

Same energy as MLB having the balls to call their finals the 'world' series.

You need to be creative, just ask Alysha Newman.

As long they don't void their sponsor contracts or Olympics rules.  I've never been on those sites, and don't know if they are all explicit porn or just fan sites showing more glamours side.   Need to tread carefully.

Best metric is probably a points system. Gold worth 3, Silver worth 2, Bronze worth 1 point or gold worth 5, silver 3, bronze 1 if you want to weigh actually winning more.

I wouldn't normalize relative to country population, degree of sports participation is not constant, would probably normalize it with how many athletes a country send to the Olympics. So conversion rate.

Tough no matter how you do it.  A team can compete for the better part of two weeks and win gold in soccer and it counts the same as the person that gets gold in the ribbon gymnastics

From what I read Olympic officials were aware of this prior to the games and no athletes had anything explicit on their pages. I believe they use it like Instagram but sell subscriptions.

Credit to them for getting funding creatively. Also keeps their options open for post-athletic careers I suppose.
