Except that wasn't what I was replying to.  I was replying to how Bowman threw away the core and didn't do anything with it, which is false.  He won 3 cups...

Nope he inherited that core he did not build it... I could have won at least 2 with that core he was gifted...

I’m late to the party, and just wanted to agree with all the hate to the Oilers. What moral rejects they have on that team. I hope karma plays a good hand against them in 2024-25.

The date makes these assumptions believable. No tin hat required.   You just need to be observant and aware that politicians do this kind of thing all the time - they wait until 4:pm Friday afternoon to release news they would rather not have people discuss.  A holiday weekend is best.

EDIT: Just read your last line, you're a disgusting person and in all honesty this is probably the nicest thing you'll hear, some members are not as polite as I am.

Well said. His comments are disgusting and should be cause for a ban IMO. Blaming victims of SA should NEVER be allowed on these boards.

Why defend Bowman so hard?

I’m not defending anyone.  Why dismiss what he did in Chicago as a GM and say anyone and his dog could have won 3 cups which isn’t true.  You can be a good GM and also be a sleazeball and a criminal.  The two don’t go hand in hand.

What a weird take that Bowman is now an incompetent GM.  Are you also going to say the same thing about Kane, Toews, Keith and Seabrook who also covered up the sexual assault?  Is Kane now a shitty player and doesn’t deserve to get into the Hall of Fame?

They have.

But anyone can sign that no? From any city, province, state or country

The only people that can actually drive change are the NHLPA or sponsors unfortunately

People will still buy tickets and people will still watch the team

Aquilini is a well known crook with deep pockets and great lawyers yet we support. Plenty of NFL/NBA owners that are crooks as well yet fan base is still strong

Well I'd say his lack of character speaks to the potential for other defects.

He doesn't deserve to be there, no.

I'm a little late to the party, been dealing with some heavy emotional stuff today. But just when I think the Oilers can't stoop any lower, they find a way to drain more water out of the pool and hire that ass hat.

You are basically defending Bowman though. I have talked to quite a few Chicago fans and all of them so far say he is a VERY bad GM. They even question why the Oilers hired him. Basically, his drafting wasn't good. His trades weren't good either. The draft picks given up will kill the Oilers depth. Chicago even with Bedard is a VERY bad team. That speaks volumes about Bowman's legacy.

That may be true but the Oiler fans are pretty united on this and are putting as much pressure as they can on Jeff Jackson and Katz and after that advertisers may start to feel the heat.

It may accomplish nothing but Oiler fans aren’t staying quiet on the hiring so I have some respect for that.

So anyway, if anyone needs to question our management (Aqua) being a bad owner, we can see now that he isn't quite as bad as many others. Without meaning to sound like a cuck, these are the things that Aqua has been doing over the years, which admittedly has been FAR FROM PERFECT.

1) Continually spending to the cap

2) Continually upgrading facilities (most recently, the state of the art scoreboard)

3) Willing to give management, past and present, the ability to make moves for the most part.

4) Didn't try to arm-bar the city for an arena. 100 percent owned by Aqua.

5) Loves to go on social media to talk about the team

6) Hires competent staff. Aside from the Benning miscue, PA/JR have proven themselves to be very competent, and this is coming from a poster that really didn't like how they started out.

Aqua is a flawed owner, without a doubt; however, he is human and he learns from his mistakes, seemingly. Now if you look at the Oilers/Calgary ownership, they are gouging the cities with their arenas, and now the Oilers are hiring Bowman out of all people.

To be clear, many Oiler fans I have seen online chastise this hiring of the Bowman. This is 100 percent on their shitty management.

Yes. That's what I am getting from online reactions. Bowman really has no business being an executive in hockey. In fact, someone who covers up a sexual assault has no business being with people. This is a DISGUSTING behaviour that should result in a lifetime ban. Only the NHL would penalize Chicago ownership with 2 million dollars. What a crock of shit.

I wish we could have a VERY bad GM and win 3 cups...

And I am not defending him at all.  OJ Simpson was a great running back was he not?  He was also a piece of shit human and a murderer...

Here's what the hhof looks for BTW:

Playing ability, sportsmanship, character and contributions to his or her team or teams and to the game of hockey in general

People are trying to say Bowman was a terrible GM, not because of the covering up of the sexual assault, but because he was just terrible period, bad decisions and according to one poster "threw away the core".  How exactly can you "throw away the core", if you won 3 cups?  Can you explain that?  No other team in the salary cap era has won 3 cups.  That's just a dumb comment to be totally honest with you.

My retort was I'd have no problem having a bad GM if he brought us 3 cups.  If Gillis had brought us 3 cups he would be a God in this city and a statue of him would be in front of Rogers Arena.  Regardless that he inherited the core and made so many bad decisions...

Well that's your line I guess. I wouldn't be happy to have such a shitty person running the team or a captain who looked the other way, but I guess morals are personal that way.

I wasn't talking about the sexual assault cover up, why are you so confused?  You think I would want the Canucks to hire Stan Bowman today?  My entire point went over a few people's heads it seems.  Weird...

Fuck the Coilers. What a terrible decision.

Also this GM is trash. He absolutely inherited the core that won there and did sweet fuck all with his decade in charge.
