Not an NHL goalie.

Been telling people that since the start of the offseason. Somehow people wanted to roll the dice with him or Silovs. 😂

Thank god management went out and got an NHL backup. That was right up there with a third line center and top 4 D in terms of needs for me.

I think Silovs could be a decent backup tbh.

He played some pretty good hockey last year.

Poor Spencer. A couple years ago he looked like he could be destined to be a really strong backup goalie and now literally he has no role here and maybe nowhere else.

You sure?

Could it be more like he played 6 games that looked good and then the fans here started overhyping him like crazy (over a 6 games performance); and then he played back to his normal skill level during last season?

Could be that instead.

Similar to the Canucks making AHL callups look like Vezina candidates.  Once there's a scouting report at the NHL level, these guys get exposed more often than not.

Dhaliwal named Colorado as well - as Pavel Francouz will not be ready to start the season.

I could also see Columbus as Danill Tarasov sustained an injury at training camp leaving only Elvis Merzlikins.

Tampa or Colorado would be upgrades for him, CBJ not so much, mind you they look better after this past offseason

It'd be neat to see if he could carve out an NHL role elsewhere

Sounds likely that Martin finds a new home. Won't find out til 11am. - waivers time used to be at 9am pacific time 12pm eastern, but its changed now according to Dhaliwal.

That's a bummer, was wondering what the delay was

Good for him if he's claimed though, he wasn't gonna get another crack at it here

clears up a contract spot for the Canucks

Looks like he will have a chance to back up Merzlikins.CBJ back up right now is Danil Tarsov, who's 24, injured (how long I don't know) but has only played a handful of NHL games with a 3.66 GAA and .900 save %.

Martin has played 38 games and has a 3.62 GAA and a .885 save  % (and that includes the harsh year last year).

Hope the best for him to get a chance to win a back up spot and regain his opportunity in the league. He's in a good spot to do so, and given I think last year his numbers were an aberration (he's a better goalie than that), he should be able to. And we get a contract off the books that was redundant!
