Looks like he was out past the naval base in the main bay ( Nanoose has two, Nanoose bay and Northwest Bay). He's lucky as there are some pretty remote areas around there. His boat was sitting at the Schooner Cove marina, around the peninsula near Fairwinds golf course, at the end of the report. Good stuff, happy story indeed.
