[Report] TOR Tavares to relinquish Captaincy; Matthews to be named Captain

  • GrammaInTheTub changed the title to [Report] TOR Tavares to relinquish Captaincy; Matthews to be named Captain

If that's the stuff that this team is focused on...no wonder they fail.

It's a team effort and who cares who wears the C? Everyone has an opportunity to rise up and lead a team...just ask JT. You don't need a letter to prove anything or solidify your position. Auston's their ringer...but is he captain material? There's more to it than points. Integrity matters too.

They're so wrapped up in ego related stuff. Whatever. Yes, let Auston wear the tiara crown.

Gotta stay in the news somehow I guess.

Not really sure what Matthews has done so far to deserve the C more than JT. Sure he scores a lot of goals, but not when it counts. He kept playing last season to chase for 70 goals, failed and then didn't keep himself healthy for the playoffs.

And lol what does JT 'being very involved' in the process with the stripping of his captaincy even mean?

Very involved with deciding where he's getting traded to?

This guy is obviously an incredible talent however he doesn't seem to be the type of guy to lead a team.  I was skeptical of Hughes being Captain at first so who knows what will happen.  Toronto always bringing the Laff to the NHL

Hughes at least isn't a sex offender.

The leafs biggest fail in this competitive cycle was signing Tavares.  Matthew's has been the key guy for a long time and is long overdue o be captain.  Leafs seem to have added some good pieces on their back end but this will likely be a transition year until the Tavares contract runs out.

Does mooning someone make you a sex offender now?

Heh. Yeah I thought that was a little harsh too. If anything it was a very adolescent stunt, some people grow up slower than others and hockey teams are in some ways very adolescent environments

Would you want that piece of garbage near any children you cared about?

He didn't moon any children. He did a dumb thing and it became public because he was a public figure. You make him sound like a predatory pedophile. That is an extraordinary leap, Hef.

lol is that so they can try trade away Tavares mid season and the narrative won’t be they are trying to dump the captain? Otherwise they couldn’t wait till next off season when Tavares is gone?

That's a good point, maybe they're putting a,contingency plan in place so if they find a deal for Taveres at the deadline or whenever they're not stuck with a messy situ of having to name a new cap mid-season or go into the playoffs without a captain, which wouldn't be a good look for management when the leafs are inevitably bounced early.
