Haha, yeah I'm glad our management is sharper than that. It's not super fantastic but it's certainly better than a lower pick. Right in the middle, not higher end but not entirely pointless either. Fair value for the player. Great to use for an Ian Clark goalie pick to replenish our system if nothing else.

I agree but he had loads of potential and it just didn't show up. I think it was a good calculated move to just get something out of it

he was the guy i wanted in the draft. i took a KHL subscription to see him play in St peterbourgh. (and kept an eye on Tryamkin with Ekaterinburg). i was mad we allowed Suter to play on the 1st line with his limited skills and no chance for Podz.

Much like coffee this deal might just be an acquired taste. I feel like the timing of this deal is a little strange. I too question why they would reward him with a 2 year deal only to randomly trade him. I feel this could be a precursor to another deal or maybe wiggle room to sign a potential PTO? We need some puck moving defenseman and there may be some available in training camp. Only time will tell but kinda sucks to see him go to Edmonton but still wish him well.

Not only that, but he finished 240th in AHL scoring last season. He's not going to become a full-time player in Edmonton. I think he might end up in Bakersfield. Here's everything I know about Bakersfield:

He's basically a project at this point, doesn't mean he can't become an NHL'er but a 4th is a normal asking price for a project. Since you are rolling the dice that he can still pan out. 

 

I think maybe we felt the return was low because of how Benning used to overpay for projects.

I don't like that it's to a division rival, but he's definitely not guaranteed to move the needle for them. As was also said, they could get a number of players still in FA or from other teams, so I can agree this was Alvin capitalizing on a situation where Edmonton needed some depth due to the offer sheets. If he had gotten a 2nd I don't think anyone would complain.

Maybe management wanted to get everybody talking again cuz we're already at 25 pages in a matter of hours. It's nice to think that we have a good enough that podz was expendable enough for a fourth. Can't wait to see opening days roster

I would say it's definitely possible that after 5 pre-season games he gets cut and then heads back. If Vancouver was straight up with him about his chances he may have even told them he's leaving if he doesn't make it. 

 

I think he really likes Vancouver but I'm not sure he and his wife and baby wouldn't prefer Russia to the minor leagues and playing in Abbotsford. Although Bakersfield may be preferable to Edmonton in the long run is he willing to keep chasing the NHL dream in new cities if it's not the big leagues?

I keep coming back to the thought that this wasn't a deal that happened because someone offered something we couldn't pass up. Knowing the limitations he's seen in his NHL time, it was probably something we explored already knowing his upcoming waiver status, but got revisited with the offer sheets and new GM in Edmonton.

 

Allvin clearly felt we had an opportunity to get something extra and jumped on it. We saw that from him last year where he was very active early so we know he's not shy to look for and make a deal.

I spent about an hour collecting quote from many of you Podz believers over these past 25 pages... but I threw them out.  Fuck it.

 

I think most of you know I've been one if not the most vocal, fanatical supporter of Podz. 

 

I'm just so very sad.  Went thru all the emotions after reading about this fucking trade.  A fucking 4th!!!... what a fucking nightmare come true! 

 

I just so hope there's more that comes from this in the form of a trade or offer sheet etc, over the next couple days... but I won't hold my breath. 

 

It seems to me management lost faith in Podz.  They didn't see him 'getting it'.  They saw regression rather than progression.  They no longer could afford to be patient.  The team as a whole was progressing faster than he was.   

 

But this sucks.... and I do think this will come back to haunt this management... probably not this year but sooner than later.
