So load the top 6 with our most skilled wingers, like this?

    Beau - Petey - Kuz

Garland - JTM - Boeser

Then surround these 3 with the most physical defensive wingers?
(eg. PDG, Joshua, Studnicka,Åman)

                Suter - Höglander

               Blueger

i would load up the top 2 lines i think we are going to struggle trying to spreads the offence/lines around.. we don't have the horses or players to do that. beauvillier was pretty useless invisible offence and defensively when he was not on EP's line. at least with the bottom 6 one of the 2 have the potential to be effective shutdown line. i rather have 2 effective offensive line than 3 half ass line that'll struggle for goals.. the only play drivers we have is EP and Miller.. everyone else is just a passenger.. spreading our wingers out makes them even less effective coz they have no one to drive the play.

PDG is my favorite of that group. Sign me up for Trenin!

PDG seems the most capable on the current roster…good choice.

As for Trenin, I was just reading more about the ‘herd line’ for Nashville: Colton Scissons (Colt), Yakov Trenin (Yak), and Jeannot (the Ox, who was traded for an entire draft class, plus Cal Foote).

“Together they frustrate opponents with their relentless physical play and more-than-capable offensive abilities.”

I love the intentional identity, and think Minny did something similar with Greenway, Reaves and Foligno…actually called ‘the identity line,’ IIRC.

The price Tampa paid for Jeannot shows how some teams are starting to value the elusive physical, but skilled players like Tom Wilson. They are a more scarce commodity than right handed defenders.

Suter and Blueger are a great start, but would love to add some bite on their wings. We should also keep drafting players with this potential in mid to late rounds, like Alriksson.

Think Garland can drive play (to a lesser extent) as well, but I get your reasoning.

Tocchet seems intent on having a forechecking ‘wall guy’ on the top lines. Beau can be that for line 1,  and I’d be curious if Garland could do that for line 2. He’s decent digging out pucks, and is speedy/shifty.

I think the internal candidates are Joshua, PDG or Åman. Ideally, we’d trade for a more proven, physical PK specialist like Yakov Trenin.

I really hope we don't hold on to pieces if they don't fit. We have had some of these guys for awhile now and if they can't do the job, then move on. Luckily these are minor pieces in which we can move a lot easier then some of the big names.

Great post. I really like your notion of attempting to create an identity in our bottom 6. We surely had none in the last couple of years. We definitely need some bite as you put it. Some players who can take and win the head to head matchups against the other teams better players. Way to many nice guys in our forward group that would seemingly rather win scoring titles than hockey games.
