nux_win
And his brother too. Holy crap I feel for that family. What a tragedy, all the more so because it was preventable. Condolences.

That is horrific, reminds me of what happened to the Humboldt Broncos team. My first thought went to Luc. These guys seem bigger than life but they are as vulnerable as anyone. Just brutal.

Sophomore Jinx
What an absolute tragedy, to describe it as heartbreaking would be an epic understatement, such sad news. The irreparable damage and loss that selfish driver caused to this family by driving drunk, is immeasurable, and impossible to even try to comprehend. What a sad, sad day. RIP Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, and condolences to the Gaudreau family. Edited August 30 by Sophomore Jinx

People look at me weird when I go to a pub or family get togethers and I don't drink. If I wasn't driving yeah then I'll drink. I was never a fan of his. But would never wish tragedy like this to happen to anyone. RIP and this will be tough for his family and friends, especially his wife and kids. Me too, my friend. It's tough at times - I go to many games with people who drink and have a great time but I drive to the rink and so I ...don't. It's just not worth the risk. On the occasion where I feel like indulging with them, I take skytrain. Which is a pain in the ass for me as I have to wait for a bus on the way home that, at that time of night, runs once an hour. I usually JUST miss the 3 Road bus as I get off the skytrain...I see it leaving. My ex used to drink and drive (idiot) and was charged for it. Problem was - the penalties weren't nearly stiff enough. I ran a little lottery booth awhile back and this sweet lady (about 60-70 years old) used to come in most days and always spent about $60/day on scratch and wins. I started chatting her up as she'd sit there and scratch them...I'd learn that it wasn't the prospect of winning, it was keeping her mind occupied. She lost both of her sons (twins) at the hands of a drunk driver. Imagine how she felt...her boys pleaded with her to ride their bikes down to "the dunes" (now Garry Point) but it was near supper time and she said no. "Pleeeease" finally convinced her and she said "ok, but ride down there and then back for supper". She said she was in the kitchen peeling potatoes when she heard sirens screaming closer and closer. She said her gut churned and she just had a really bad feeling. It was her mother's instinct - both of her boys, gone in a flash, due to someone's selfish negligence. Unbelievably (but true) - she'd lose her husband 4 years later to the same fate. I don't know how she survived after that (except she still had one son who used to drive her to the lottery booth). And any time I hear of some obnoxious person mowing some innocent lives down, I think of Millie. 3 14

Popular Post 4petesake
An excerpt from Johnny’s letter to Flames fans when he left, explaining how important it was for he and his wife to be able to spend more time with family. I hope the people of Calgary can remember me not only as a hockey player, but also as a good person with good values. Thank you for supporting me over these years, and for making my family a part of yours. We will Jonny. RIP 13. Popular Post -dlc-
That family will be ripped to shreds over this. So unforgivable...this decision by the driver has thrown a family into complete devastation. Their sister's wedding the next day? My good God this is terrible and it's hitting me hard (for some reason). Maybe because I've just spent the last 4 days watching young men who are in the primes of their lives doing what they love. And now these two will be deprived of that because some idiot got behind the wheel and drove like an asshole. 2 3

Popular Post Believe In Blue
I posted my condolences earlier, and I also wanted to add that drunk drivers are the fucking scum of the earth. Years ago my BFF’s father (and a close family friend of my family’s) was killed by a drunk driver (mind you he was intoxicated in the same vehicle as well) but the driver was a goddamn police officer! They hit a tree head on and my bff’s dad and other passenger died instantly but the driver survived. And then he purposely acted more injured than he was to avoid a breathalyzer when the emergency services came. When he appeared in court he kept saying he did not recall the accident or anything prior and because they didn’t breathalyze him, he served no jail time. That accident ruined so many lives and the idiot that was supposed to uphold the law never got punished. I’ve never trusted the legal system since. I hope to god that this fucker gets punished. There is no excuse for DUI! 4 1
