Alriksson is only 19 too, tons of time to develop! Obviously need all of the stars to align, but if he can turn into the bull we were hoping Podz was... could be fun watching him dominate physically along the boards and in front of the net creating space and loose pucks for skill players on a Swedish line.

Alriksson - Pettersson - Lekkerimaki

Seems to be a better skater than pods already and it seems hard for apposing players to battle his reach while trying to battle his size.I still wished we gave pods some better opportunities to succeed but i understand the move.

Another great win for the boys there !! Much different and tighter game to the Oilers game despite the scoreline. The Jets had some high end talent there with some good experience on their side as well and it certainly showed.  I think that adds some value to the performance we did see as well as the ones we didn't.  My observations from watching the stream from home this time :

1. In the year of our lord 2024 the Canucks appear to be able to finally cast a proper stream in decent resolution with passable commentary without glitches, ghosting 240p or mono 1db audio like many past years.

2. Against a bigger, faster and smarter Jets team the D performances certainly stood out more - KK played a great Defensive game given the context. EPD was more noticeable for some good, solid D zone plays and he got the goal to ice the performance Minyo looked tidy enough too, and might have a future.

3. The Top line was troubling today - they got bodied pretty hard and weren't able to get much control in any shift they had. Lekkermaki looked similar to how he looked in Abbo last year, struggled to find space and win board battles and while he still got a few shots off they were pretty low percentage.  Bains was the most troubling, the puck seemed to die on his stick almost every time. Maybe all hungover after the first performance or just saving it for big camp maybe. Also of note was that in both games all the lines for the Canucks seemed to have pretty similar ice time, I'm assuming we don't have stats for it, but I thought it was noticeable in both games that the other teams seemed to ride their top line a lot more than we did, specially tonight. They are technically development games after all so why not. Of course it might just have been my miss-perception.

4. Max looked fast and real tidy again - still think him and Karlson can get some solid minutes in if we hit injuries in Vancouver. And can I get some love for my boy Big V ( that sounds wrong...🤣) He looked real promising again today I thought and got reward for this hard work with a nice goal - He's playing against much smaller and probably weaker players granted but you can just see the moves and how he actually uses his size with the hits, separation and shielding of the puck - could we finally develop a big power forward from a 4th round pick at least... too early to say, but I think he's a lad worth keeping an eye on.  Klimo looked a bit better on that line too. They deffo had an identity as a big crash and bang type line. He made some nicer plays and used his speed and power a bit better tonight after I slammed his performance against the Oil.  Still not holding my breath on him, but wanted to be fair.

Good comments. Some add-ons.

1. Bains struggled. I was wondering if maybe he was ill. Or maybe it was hard to get up the for the Young Stars after being an AHL all-star and playing games in the NHL last year. Even in the first game, he was weakest player on his line, as Raty and Lekker were much better.

2. I have been high on Sasson for a while. But, as you point out, he is older and should be dominant at this level. Still, I could see him playing some NHL games this year if someone gets injured.

3. Pettersson (EPD) continues to improve and impress, as does Kudryatsev (KK). EPD has been excellent for a 3rd round pick and KK was a steal in the 7th round.

4. Speaking of low draft picks doing well, I am very impressed by Alriksson (4th round) and Romani (6th round), although both remain long shots to ever become legitimate NHL players.

5. But I have EPD and KK both at better than 50-50 to be decent NHL players at some point.

Amazing how fast things got better after Benning left!

In every conceivable aspect of hockey operations the Canucks have vastly improved. Pro scouting, Armature scouting, Player development,  Even higher up with Emilie Castonguay Cammi Granado.  Allvin and Rutherford came in with a plan, Benning had no plan.  The Canucks farm team would still be in Utica if Benning were  GM.

The Canucks don't draft players and then forget they exist.  The players that this group drafts have hands on development. I've said it before but the Canucks have never in their history cared about their draft picks like the Allvin/Ruherford era has. The Canucks are in unchartered territory.  I don't think the Canucks have had management at this level before.

I'm just happy to not have to hear "y'know" every 3 words when our GM is interviewed now.

Just got home from this one.

The good:

Vilmer Alriksson watching him I can't believe the season he had last year in the OHL. His hands in tight looked good for a big fella bullied his way around the ice along the boards and net front. Exceeded all of my expectations.

Raty was the only member of the top line that looked dangerous at all. He was constantly creating opportunities, winning faceoffs, back checking, PKing he did everything and carried the line.

D Pete. He was by far the best player on the ice for either team. Boy he loves to activate but he always got back in time. Made a brutal block right on the ankle I think the whole building felt then another. Shook it off and hustled to the bench.

Ty Young After the Jets dominated the first he really settled the game down and looked big in net.

The Meh

Lekkerimaki He skated well you could really see the power on his shot though I don't think he hit the net once. His best play was a nice backcheck. Beyond that though he was perimeter a slight breeze and he was sprawling on the ice, tried some cutsie moves that were easily handled. Theres a lot to like but he's not close to cracking an NHL roster unless it's <10mins as a PP specialist.

Klimovich he was just kinda there. He didn't do anything to stand out in any way it's likely the end of the road for him soon.

The Bad

Bains man I'm a big Bains fan too. He was really gripping his stick just couldn't seem to cradle pucks at all. He wasn't his usual self getting under guys skin mixing it up infront of the net hoping this was just an off game.

Alcos was just wildly outclassed. He was getting walked left and right all game I think Lambert still has his jockstrap.

The most disappointing.  Colby Barlow. I really liked him in his draft. But boy oh boy he looked like he would rather be knitting a scarf on the bench. I hope he's just been told to take it easy like Pete was his young stars appearance where he looked indifferent too the difference though Pete was still sniping even off his back foot.

Maybe we're starting to get a better understanding now of why one was a 1st round pick, another was a 2nd round pick, and the other was never drafted.

This kid is really going to turn heads at camp I think. As hockey people say, you can't teach "big". He's so much improved from last season. He's part of the future for sure.
