Latest On Brock Boeser

All signs point to Canucks sniper Brock Boeser being ready for the season after he told reporters today he’s off blood thinners and has been cleared for contact (via Noah Strang of Daily Hive Vancouver). He missed the final game of Vancouver’s season, a Game 7 loss to the Oilers in the Second Round after scans showed clotting that stemmed from a blocked shot earlier in the series.

However, Boeser, 27, isn’t entirely out of the woods yet. He made it clear the situation will be one to “monitor throughout this season,” Strang said. He also added that he’ll need to wear compression gear on flights to prevent additional clotting issues.

After a breakout 40-goal, 73-point regular season, the clotting issue didn’t impact Boeser’s usual offseason training routine too much. During Vancouver’s end-of-season media availability in May, the winger said that he anticipated being ready for training camp in the fall. He didn’t disclose today if his contact clearance was a recent development or if it came earlier in the offseason.

And, as expected, Boeser also said he hasn’t begun negotiations on a contract extension and will instead let those play out after the season starts (per Strang). That’s what Rick Dhaliwal and Thomas Drance of The Athletic indicated would happen last month, with a lack of talks coming across the wire thus far in the offseason. Boeser is entering the final season of a three-year, $19.95MM deal with a $6.65MM AAV, one he’ll eclipse by a significant amount if he can repeat last season’s showing.

It’s unlikely that will be the case, though. Boeser could still earn a raise, but expecting him to hit the 40-goal mark again seems unrealistic. The Minnesota native shot 19.6% last season – nearly six points above his career average. With an expected regression to the 13-14% range, the 30-goal plateau is still reachable.

He still projects to play a starring role on a new-look Canucks offense that now features Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, and Daniel Sprong, replacing some outgoing names like Sam Lafferty, Elias Lindholm, and Ilya Mikheyev. He’s slated to start the season as Vancouver’s top right wing in first-line minutes alongside J.T. Miller.

The season can't start soon enough. Picking up a hockey news yearbook this morning only made that feeling stronger. In all honesty, I'm not expecting Brock to hit 40 goals again this season, if he does, great. If he hits 30+ goals, I would be very happy.

Word from Dhaliwal is the contract is looking like mid 7's long-term. I'd do it.

Right now he's making 6.6 & no one is complaining about that number. If he's a consistent 30 goal 65-75 point guy that takes 1st line matchups & scorer in hard situations (playoffs) I think your fine giving him ballpark 7.5, your certaintly not finding better in the immediacy of our current window.

Glad to hear Brock seems to be back to good health. Hoping that continues, he continues to be productive as he was & we get a fair deal done within the next year. Brock is awesome.

Must be looking at 50 mil total bucks over 7 years, which would be great for everyone.

I think 5 years but be a better option, not sure he'd be able to produce 30-40 goals a season after 5 years but maybe, however if he bROCK's it again this season he might be looking for more $ than we can afford. Hard to tell though.. one can hope!

7 is better for the cap tho. He's good people too so I like locking him up for his career here essentially.

Prob, not reach close to 40 in 2 yrs

Daniel at 31 yrs old (who most of the young guys on Canucks today are as fit as he is today) never hit 30 goals again and Brock will be 28 beginning of the year

Daniel didn't look like much of a goal scorer at all until he was 26.   Brock looked like a goal scorer his rookie year.  Daniel did score 20 (rookie year) which was encouraging, but was very meh after his rookie season (9 as a sophomore), so was Hank for that matter, until after the lockout.    Daniel had a total of 4 30 plus goal seasons (and two at 29), not exactly elite.   Longevity stacked them up though.   A lot of 20 plus goal seasons.    Given what our other high picks managed in Linden and Nedved,  right out of the gate and a few years in,  the Sedins got a lot of media flak for being such high picks..part of that was nobody seemed to be able to pair with them aside from one year of Carter, until Burrows.   He really made that line work.    Sure hope JT Miller and Brock get a third spoke, if they do then the sky's the limit the next two or three seasons.   DeBrusk or Joshua would be nice.

If Brock does what he showed he could do his rookie season, and now is showing it, he's got a shot at having more 30 goal seasons than Daniel for sure.    And could match Daniel's best two seasons this year.      Covid, injuries and personal issues, for sure screwed us and Brock out of one, probably a few more 30 goal seasons already.       Naslund and Bure were goal scorers.   Naslund's peak was 27-32ish.   So also a good point.   Linden too until his knee injury (looked to be a career like regular 30 plus goal scorer, moving to center for sure cost him as well).

  D. Sedin is a pretty accurate comp, except Brock showed more out of the gate.   What will that mean until he's 32-33?     Personally think he's got a shot at 30 the next five seasons.    And if he can shake the injury bug,  possibly a shot at 40 plus a couple more times as well.   I don't think anyone would be surprised if that was his career season either.    For sure would be great if he was this teams version of Tanti, he seemed to have the shot back last season,  his rookie year (playing with the Sedins and giving them and the power play a big bump from bottoms dwellers, to 9th best), it was starting to feel like it would never happen.

One of the best releases i've seen on a Canuck, matched with laser accuracy.       Needs top power play minutes though.   Lekkermaki, could blur things a little there.   And hope for the teams sake it does.   Brock could have been something special right until last season.    Sure hope he can cement some legacy.   A full term deal is risky for the club.   But do doubt he won't manage 20 goals over the next 7 years as a minimum bar as well.   That's over 340 for his career.   Pretty darn decent isn't it?

Edit: Brock has 20, 19 EV goals his first two seasons, 23 last year.    D. Sedin has 6 20 EV goal seasons.    They both seem to need the power play to get those 30 plus goal season as well.   Brock's also at a higher GPG trajectory than D.  Sedin was at the same age.   Just for perspective.    JT Miller and Brock should have a hey day, over the next few seasons.    They just had one of the best seasons we've ever seen a duo have.   And they had Suter and Pizza as their linemate.   No Bo-Mo, no Burrows.    No Courtnall or Linden or Adam's (Bure and Ronning).     Barring injuries, 300 goals as Canuck if he re-signs is a lock.   400 isn't out of the question either depending on health.   If it's 7 years, 28,29,30,32,33,34,35.   His last season, was his 26 year.   Same year D. Sedin first broke 30, with 36 goals.    His previous high was 22 at 25... So Brock and 8 more years as a Canuck, averaging 25 goals, puts him within striking range of 400.   Can he do it?
