Lol no.

When he didn't play stellar, they didn't win.  He was a very big reason for the success they had in the playoffs.  It certainly wasn't EP.  I'd say he stole games and at the very least he kept them in a number of games that they probably should have lost.  Any less and he would have been the new back-up, not the starter in those playoff games.......and that shirt didn't became famous just because of the shirt.....the guy made that shirt famous lol.

I imagine Silovs not to happy.

If KL is so good why did he last so long on the market and sign so cheap?

question asks GIF

I'm sure he's a good goalie, but some people are treating this like PA pulled off the move of the century

The overhyping of Silovs on here is insane. Probably the same crowd who overhyped Martin and jumped off the wagon as soon as crap hit the fan though. Silovs could be a great goalie in the future. But to think that he is, right now, a NHL starter ready to handle 60 games and bring us to the playoffs is delusional. Management who is closest to the situation thinks the same thing too.

The contract pretty much guarantees Lankinen plays in the NHL next season. Based on what was discussed on radio, he probably hoped to get more money and/or term but just couldn't find a landing spot for the money and term he would have wanted. 1-year at $875K pretty much guarantees that if Lankinen gets waived at any point by the Canucks, I would be shocked if he did not get claimed.

It does also mean that Silovs will presumably start the year in Abbotsford since he's waiver exempt. I don't mind the move. I guess Abbotsford will run with 3 goalies? I can't see the Canucks wanting to send Tolopilo or Patera to the ECHL.

I wonder what the expected starts for Lankinen will be even if Demko is healthy to start the season. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Lankinen get around 30 starts. No reason to run Demko into the ground, especially with an unpredictable injury like the one he seems to have.

Silvs was hurt and Demmer is hurt..Why pressure Silvs?..Great insurance move at even a better price. It's no D Nurse contract, that's for sure..I can tell you that for free.

I never said it was a bad signing

You're right, It is a great signing!

What I did say is that it probably signals demko might be out for a significant chunk.

We'll see if a rookie and a borderline NHL goalie can hold the fort I guess.

Silvos starts in Abby?

What did I miss? Who is starting this year in Van?

The Canucks were giving up huge amounts of shots, spending unbelievable amounts of time in their own end and getting very few shots of their own.

"Huge amount of shots"

Game 7 29

Game 6 27

Game 5 23

Game 4 30

Game 3 45

Game 2 31

Game 1 18

One game Silovs faced a lot of rubber.   Like what Demko regularly faced against Vegas, difference in that series many were in the slot or front in close (slot and then a couple rebounds).   You're making it out like he was the reason we make it to game 7 which is total horseshit, and only a complete dumbass would say something like that.   Perimeter shots and long bombs ... that series was very even.

Edit:  Cry baby and his wingman looking at the refs at even sideways glance for a penalty, it was the only way they could beat us, and they knew it.  5 x 5 they weren't really that great.   It's why they keep losing  despite the best roster they've managed to date.    It was the hardest series the Oilers played physically too.    The entire country wasn't watching that series because Silovs was Haseking it Roy'ing them.   Good grief.   Take off the Oilers jersey they lost.

As for this signing, and the panicking about the ridiculous Conner Garland trade (spare parts, a meh back-up and we trade a very good support player plus a second for that ...), like I said we could acquire something like what we just did for trading a second or say one of our extra 4th's and a middling prospect.   These guys don't make a lot, and are a dime a dozen.   De-Smith last year gave us cap space and was perfect.   The Spencer Martin's of the world are common place.    Believe Silovs would be totally game to run with the number one spot.   We still need a back-up and to be 3 goalies deep, especially with Demko being an uncertainty, and his vague esoteric injury.    There's a reason why true number one's get the big bucks, the workhorse's.

Vegas won with their 3rd stringer.  Other guys like Binnington and Murray won without much NHL experience.   Good teams find a way.    Don't at all doubt our core is good enough, and that we are coached well enough, to get by with a Lankinen/Silovs tandem.   And wouldn't be surprised to see them split starts 60/40 either.   Our team is too good to end up mired in a losing streak.    Sure going to enjoy every single EDM game.  Watching our big D pound away and push them to the perimeter.   Draisatl will play scared i'm sure, and McDavid, it took him a full 7 game series in extra games, to "beat" Gretzky's assist record.    Not the same.   So five of his 61 records have been broken, and one added since his retirement.   That's what greatness looks like.   McDavid just might be the most unlikeable superstar  the leagues ever had.   Crosby is out hand delivering seasons tickets after again being a great teammate and leaving something on the table for others.   And charity work etc.   McDavid's big public appearance last year, was showing off his ridiculous mansion for half an hour with his then girlfriend like he wanted to be a You Tube star as well.    Wouldn't accept the Comm Smythe.   Pouty and poor sportsmanship, could of skated over like Geigure, who was heartbroken, but did it, then handed it off right away.    Gretzky, Furh, Messier, Coffey, Kurri, Lowe,  a pile of other guys kept the cup in Canada, and was easy to like that team, Battle of Alberta were much watch games.   Not sure what kids these days are learning from McDavid.   Congratulations on your wedding though, sure cool to know your finance wore a dozen different dresses on Tick Tock or Twitter or whatever medium was used.

Gretzky gets married the entire country treated it like the royal wedding.   Again that's what true greatness looks like.   If McDavid was traded out of Oil Land, you wouldn't have Ottawa seeking to make the trade illegal in the parliament.    Not sure how this thread became an Oilers thing.   But if we are going to talk about them, let's at least talk about the ones that have won a cup.

Better than Casey IMO

Man I loved DeSmith.  16 games under 3 goals. Held the fort. I was choked he didn't even get a chance to redeem himself in the playoffs.  And when Silovs let in those long shots?

I literally shit myself that's how butt hurt I was. But it's history now. Water under the bridge. I like that there's competition for the 1A and 1B.

(I think Silovs needs new contact lenses seriously, and adjust to the long bombs.)

I don’t think this signing is as much about Silovs as it is about providing the team with insurance in case Demmer’s comeback doesn’t go as planned or heaven forbid he gets injured again later in the season.

Good signing for now, but now we have to wait for the other shoe to drop in possibly losing a player like Aman or DiGiuseppe.

Pdg won't be making the team anyway with the new wing options.

Eating crow how?  And I'm not negative, at all.  When everyone was down on this team two seasons ago, I was one of the few that said with a good coach, this was a playoff team

I'm just not a zealot.......when there's something good, I give plenty of credit, when I see something bad or something I don't like or agree with, I say so........I don't look for or use imaginary excuses like the refs or league are out to get the Canucks.
