Lol hard to argue that list.

I am thankful for the core that Benning drafted.

He missed on some high picks (Juolevi and Virtanen) but the list is pretty good.

Problem with Benning is that he also made a few blunders that evened out a lot of his good moves (Roussel, Beagle, Dickinson, Juolevi, Virtanen , Poolman, Myers @6m)

He was poor at icing a competitive team. He had too many holes.

Willie Desjardins & Travis Green.  Took him 7 years to find those perfect head coaches for this team.  😜

In any event, we're in great hands now.  Why whine about former employees?

Forgive me if this has been brought up but coach toc seemed choked during the post game sighting a few guys not being in shape. He clearly hates that and made the message clear last season.  I wonder who the few guys are.....petey?  Soucy?

It was Blais. Coach Tocchet said the name. He didn’t mention anyone else. Petey and Soucy are both in fantastic shape. I heard Dryercycle came into Coiler camp as big as a blimp.

Coaching through a rebuild and you expect a winner? You might need a few more years and you’ll be a VeteranCanuckFan and might understand things by then.

old core goes out (takes a couple seasons)

new core comes in (SEVERAL YEARS)

development/growing pains (4-5 years to establish themselves)

supporting cast

contending

it takes 8-10 years to build a contender from scratch and that’s with the help of number 1 picks. A few years faster if they are generational talent.

When did Dim Jim ever make a rebuilding move? He drafted high by default and not by intent.

Kesler+Bieksa+Hansen+Burrows not like he had anything favourable to move out and truly get ahead. He got what he could. The twins retired, Hamhuis refused to waive as did Edler. Hands are kinda tied aren’t they? MAYBE just MAYBE if Francesco allowed a rebuild sooner, we may have been able to acquire better value on players sooner and been able to speed up the rebuild. However 5 years is all it took to set this core and without a single top 3 pick. Hows NJDs 13 year rebuild been goin?

I agree Lek looks like he isn't ready, his shot is but his frame maybe not so much.. however I read somewhere that if he's penciled in on opening night we can accrue his performance bonuses against the cap for later in the year. I might be wrong or not understanding the Uber complex cba but if it benefits this team financially, I think he stays for a couple games to show his worth.

I posted this explanatory CanucksArmy piece in Lekky's thread a couple of weeks ago ...

So Jimbob did what his owner told him to do. He put his job security ahead of what was best for the club. Gillis, like the guys before him, never did that. They each took a bullet (from the owner) instead of giving in to what he wanted.
JT Miller said, after Dim Jim’s terrible choices after the bubble playoff success, he didn’t get what management was doing. The players knew how bad Jimmy was.

Well that also has to do with player performance too. A Pretty fair portion of our struggles were directly related to the youth learning what it takes to become a true pro.

2021-22 Petey showed up to camp last minute and had an absolutely brutal first half of the season. It took him over 40 games to finally get going and the team missed playoffs  by just a few wins. 24 times Petey was held pointless in the first half of that season. Imagine if he showed up to camp early like he did the following season and put up over 100pts. We would have been a playoff team without a fuckin doubt. Petey learned a valuable lesson and had it not been for the injury last year, he was well on his way to crack over 100pts and that’s with averaging just over 13mins TOI….

Hughes had his down season when he was an atrocity in his own end.

Demko had health issues to start the 2022-23 season and then went down and was out for a lengthy amount of time.

Boeser fought injuries his first few seasons and then dealt with his dads losing battle

then finally 2023-24 Pettersson, Hughes, Demko, Miller and Boeser are all finally playing like stars all at the same time and we finally got to see the true potential and the real product on ice.

it has always been there, just not all at the same time. When Boeser and Petey were struggling, Horvat and Miller were carrying the load

when Boeser led the team in points, Hughes struggled immensely in his own end and Pettersson was out.

When Petey, Hughes and Miller were on fire, Demko was out and Boeser was struggling..

then….when Boeser finally got the monkey off his back and was able to have that full year in 2022-23 to process his dads death, he finally broke out (which I called that 2 years prior that last season would be the season he breaks out) Demko was a wall, Hughes was the Norris, Petey was lights out until the injury but nonetheless we had depth, Miller cracked 100pts, Boeser hit 40

Finally it all came together. It has ALWAYS been there, just not all at once.

Aw man - I can just let most of this stuff go - but Hughes an atrocity in his own end?

Like one or two games maybe when he was 21?

This is just not backed by truth.
