Yea 100% but his injuries weren’t exactly a huge issue during the season. it was just the puck off his stick and off his pants that were unfortunate in playoffs He did have a hard time clearing the puck out and had a couple bad giveaways but I don’t remember if they actually resulted in a goal against Edited yesterday at 12:54 AM by AnthonyG

Petey has tougher minutes when you factor in PK time. A lot more work on the PK than 5v5 and PP. Your 1 way superstars are getting beauty rest on the bench when the PK unit climbs out and goes to war. Then they coast around for 4 minutes on a “don’t touch me” PP. then they pull the equality card and go log a bunch of minutes 5v5. also Petey is having to skate 200ft more often than the guys with 60%+ ozone starts 5v5 and all situations. Petey has a 19% offensive zone start through 3 games…. At five on fucking five.

He is where he is, previous high point seasons, Calder, because of skill and drive, that's fact. Just is. He's been crap for awhile, that's fact. I suspect this will get worse before better while also involving some benching and pressbox time. Something is up and only he knows what it is. I go back to his skills and drive that will eventually get him going. To say he will never regain form is silly. I agree that while he’s put up points since his rookie year, something has happened with him. I believe it has to do with his skating. In his first year, he had break away speed. since his second season, to me, he always looks like he’s off balance. He changed his blade profile in his second year and that’s when he looked slower and less stable. I know from experience that when you mess around with blade profiles it can really mess your stride up. What are everyone else’s thoughts on this?

I think part of it might be they took a player he was close too, Bo, away, opting for a teammate he's not close with and then traded away a skilled player he meshed well with in Kuzmenko. He's still a pro and has to get over it, but he's a sensitive guy and I'm wondering if he's not feeling isolated on this team Edited yesterday at 01:31 AM by stawns

Him and Z are way better than Forbort and Des Zadorov got healthy scratched in one of his first few games with Vancouver. Then he went on to play the best hockey of his entire career. And the funny thing is, the low information fans think that is who Zadorov always is. If we signed him, he would be getting the same abuse from the same people as Petterson does. But hey, its sure easy to say now that it was a mistake not to sign him. Our systems and coaches made Zadorov a better player than he really was. Maybe we should wait more than a game or 3 to completely write off Vinny and Forbort.

When he inked that $11.6M deal, he put immense pressure on himself. Look at it this way... Top cap hits in NHL: 1. 13.25M Matthews 2. 12.6M Mackinnon 3. $12.5M McDavid 4. $11.643M Panarin 5. $11.6M Pettersson Scary how high his production and consistency needs to climb to be earning this kinda money. For better or worse the team/franchise is married to EP. Will this deal go the way Subban's did? Or Parise? It's hard to tell for sure. He didn't quite take the 14% plus that superstars make but close enough. And absolutely there should be some accountability. At the same time we can give him some slack (for awhile anyways). To put it in perspective, he's earning a crap ton more than Bure did, and Mogilny. About what Naslund made (and he was a top player for a few years league wide), and 2% more than the Sedins. It's fair to critique. Edited yesterday at 02:23 AM by IBatch

Now, looking at the trajectory of the first four games, we're sacrificing early success with less pressure to come together over the longer term, which is a correction from how we faded last year.

As such, due to cap, we only really NEED one more Top 4 D. I'd favor LD for longterm fit and cost. Soucy would be an absolute stud 3rd pair LD, and allow us to field Juulsen or Des without any fear for the next couple years. As such: 24/25 Hughes-Hronek TRADE-Myers Soucy- Des/Juulsen 25/26 Hughes-Hronek TRADE-Myers Soucy-Willander/Pettersson/Des 26/27 Hughes-Hronek TRADE-Willander Soucy (resign)-Pettersson Myers is signed for 3 years, and D-Petey is a lefty. Probably only resign Soucy if D-Petey is not NHL capable by then (which is a possibility). So 26/27 probably be more like this: Hughes - Hronek TRADE - Willander Soucy/Pettersson - Myers

Elias Pettersson (EP) doesn’t appear until 106th, which means he's not a regular on the penalty kill. He splits second PK duties with J.T. Miller, averaging just 1:22 of PK time per game last year. He’s typically behind players like Dakota Joshua and Teddy Blueger in terms of PK responsibilities. But guess who's stepping into those shoes this year? Maybe it’s too much for him to handle — I don’t know. That's probably why Rick Tocchet plans to manage his minutes more carefully. As for the stats you provided: You can’t just drop a massive list of numbers and expect people to follow along. That's why I dismissed them. There was no explanation, just pages of stats without any context or highlighting to guide the reader. Are PK minutes tougher than power play (PP) minutes? Probably. But there's no denying the amount of effort Connor McDavid puts into the PP, which in my opinion isn’t much easier than PK duties. He has to constantly retrieve and carry the puck up the ice. EP shares that responsibility with others but still takes on a lot of it. I don’t think EP will ever reach true superstar status. He doesn’t have elite moves at full speed—his best work happens when he's at a dead stop, and that's fine. He’s still an elite player. Maybe he’ll get there defensively and become more like Aleksander Barkov, but I don’t ever see him hitting 150 points in a season.
Guntrix Posted yesterday at 02:35 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:35 AM (edited) It’s so much more telling when you use cold, hard numbers. Pettersson is among the top-5 highest earners in the league, alongside Matthews, McKinnon, McDavid and Panarin, all of which are 2-3 times the player Petey is. For the “yOu DoNt PaY HiM, tHe cAnUcKs dO” crowd, Petey currently takes up a large amount of our total cap hit (on an albatross 8-year contract), making cap management/flexibility to fix preexisting issues (such as D) close to impossible. This should matter to you because it impacts the team’s competitiveness and our probability of going far in the playoffs. Unless Petey starts performing on the level of the 4 players above, this contract has the potential to spoil our current window. It’s a huge risk (and a potentially nasty stain) by the new management. Edited yesterday at 02:39 AM by Guntrix

There was an entire intermission segment breaking down just how awful and shy he is right now. Had to work so fast forwarded through the intermissions. I thought he showed a lot more tenacity and effort. oh well.

Accountability in what way? wai_lai416 Posted yesterday at 03:20 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:20 AM looking at the scheulde for the next 7 games there's only 2 that we can say is a guaranteed win.. based on how we are playing atm.. it's not improbable we only have 2-3 wins in the first 10 games.. when do we start being concerned with this team? offensively it's really non existent dating back to prior to the all star game.. and we've been relying on unrealistic shooting %.. defensively we prolly gotten worse in the off season by a fair bit if u ask me.. are we just going to accept this is what we are? or at some point we are going to say this style of hockey we playing simply ain't working?? prior to the all star game we were on like a 120 point pace.. since the all star break we were on a 94 point pace.. and if u include this year we are on a sub 90 point pace... some will point and say well we won a round in playoff and took edmonton to 7 games with a backup backup goalie.. but i say we won more so because of suspect goaltending on the other team during the playoff and we once again shooting at improbably shooting %.. right now our powerplay continue to suck.. and we are no longer shooting at 15%.. we dont have demko right now to keep the goal to below 2 so how do we fix this team before we are out of it by november? i think it's unrealistic we can start the season close to edmonton last year and expect to go on a tear once demko is back. PeteyBOI Posted yesterday at 03:32 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:32 AM 12 minutes ago, Blue said: I just read that Petey might cost us our cup window Petey just signed a contract worth 13.18% of the cap, and I’m worried it could cost us our Cup window. There's a reason teams like Chicago, LA, and Minnesota struggled after giving their stars those huge deals. When you commit that much cap space to one player, it limits the team’s ability to maintain strong depth, which is essential for long-term success. If Petey’s deal ends up straining the cap, we could face the same problem. It’s a tough balance, because he’s an elite player, but that contract could make it harder to stay competitive in the future.
