I certainly hope not, or he's in for a Juolevi awakening....I mean a rude awakening.

Had high hopes for him a couple of years ago but he never managed to take the next step. He'd be better off making a go of it somewhere else.

Sometimes it takes time to get an epiphany.  Novel idea, I know.  But it does happen.

When we draft players, everyone is so happy to get these guys.

For Defensemen, Hughes, Makar, Dhalin are one in a thousand. The rest of the defense need to BECOME nhl defensemen.

You all think Woolander is gonna be the next Hughes? Playing NHL in 2-3 years> ok, maybe. But what about the other 3 defense we picked? They need to grow like a tree instead of all the tomatoes plants you want.

The kid's now 24 years old. He's getting to the point where he needs to do something or else he's not going to make it, at least on this team. Sure, it takes longer for a defender to develop, but that clock's still ticking.

Therefore, I don't blame him for wanting a fresh start elsewhere as it is his career on the line after all. As a 4th round pick, he's at least exceeded expectations (which should be no expectations realistically for a 4th rounder); unfortunately, in this case exceeding expectations doesn't necessarily mean a full-fledged NHL'er.

If there's a trade to be made it'll be.......Reclamation project for Busteroo Bonzai e4

Busteroo Bonzai for Hot garbage e2

No Disrespect for this guy, A change of scenery might help him find his game.

Had some bad luck along the way but he wasn't going anywhere when huggybear

arrived on the scene.

He needed to play a stiffer, harder game and use his stick more.

Exactly so he can penetrate  the zone thrusting his stick work deep into the zone of the opposition - after all he is an offensive defence man - his mission and sole purpose is to score - and score - and score as often as the opportunity arises

But from time to time he's got to come back and play some D in our own end.  Can't let the other team make a mess of our back end.

This bottleneck is not Rathbone's fault, the Canucks hired too many offensive defense and no stay at home defense.

So now we all biich and moan about OEL and Myers because they dont have any Schenn's or Tanev's or Bieksa left.

The worst part is the defensive defenseman are usually much cheaper and more loyal, and after a few fights are fan favorites.

The problem is, he's not doing enough meat tenderizing.  He needs to perform corporal punishment on those primates on the ice for maximum effect.

Yeah we need some tough strong defensive defenceman who know how to shut down the  offence and transition the puck out of the zone quickly with an outlet pass

Ty Smith has a much better pedigree than Rathbone and he also cleared waivers.  If you are undersized as a Dman you need to be able to put up big numbers in the NHL.  Neither of these players can do that.  Plus, they can't defend.  I saw that Forsling was brought up here.  Forsling is a very good defender.  He actually plays way more minutes on the PK than he does on the PP.  So, there is no comparison between Forsling and Rathbone.

Hirose has a chance to make the NHL because he plays good defense.  He is undersized as well but is very good positionally.  He could play NHL games this season...

I'm not too sure why guys that size pick defense as their position if the NHL is their aspiration.   Bieksa was undersized, but made it work.  6' 190lbs - then Juiced up.  Fighting is one of the reason he made the league.  Actually probably the biggest reason (Fedor).    If you're not scoring 30-40 points and 5'10, good luck finding a regular job.   You just won't find many 5'11 and under fringe NHL D's even today, if Rathbone was 6'3" and used his size, no way he'd clear waivers.

Rathbone actually has a very impressive physique for a little guy, like Hogs.   Also has good offensive ability, it's too bad he didn't consider playing as a center or winger.    There still is time left for him, but it's dwindling.   Pretty amazing even to get some NHL games at all given he wasn't a first round pick, so kudos for him.

Shenn was under 1million cap so Soucy should hit 3 times more per game... dollar per dollar. Can he even hit half as many per game as Shenn?

Schenn was great, and a cap casualty given he earned his next deal.   As for hits, there for sure is a difference, between finishing your check and getting that count as a hit, as all players should be doing, and Kevin Steven's, Kasper, Lindros or whomever running through you and leaving the player getting attention from the trainer.   The last player we had that could truly crush guys was Ohlund.   Edler appeared to be his replacement in this regard early on, but the big hits became infrequent after his first injury.

Soucy hasn't even played a regular season game yet, not sure why anyone is getting on his case already.

Ridiculous.    In the bubble, he was pounding away at our guys.   Three guys I wasn't that aware of, became very noticeable during that run, Soucy and Hartman for MIN, and Whitecloud for Vegas.    We saw Myers smash Keith,  Soucy so far in his career, does that on a regular basis.    Come playoff time if we can get there,  sure going enjoy Soucy and Myers whittling away the other teams will to go to the tough areas or along the boards, infront of the net etc.   They could pick a star or two and concentrate on them.

You can't expect a Schenn every season.   Not with our pool anyways, and we aren't TO, or a contender so won't get good vets willing to play for league min.   We could have kept him.   That likely meant we wouldn't get Soucy though.   Cole is Schenn's replacement really.

Well Lysell got demoted and maybe there is a deal to repatriate Rathbone to Boston.

It would be a homecoming for both!  Lysell would get to come to West Sweden.

It would take an add on our part, but Lysell’s value has to be at its lowest at the moment.

Not much of an add though. Lysel looks like a bustaroo considering his higher round pick. If the cost is only Rathbone then that’s much like the Krapsoft cost. Because odds are Lysel will be playing in Europe anyway.
