That usual suspect is the only reason I bother coming into this thread.

He has an opinion, and backs it up with links.

Keeps this thread from being a complete circle jerk.

To each his own. I like to hear from the people with actual lived experience in the area.

The aqueducts- nope that was the Romans.

the sanitation- nope that was the Romans

the roads- goes without saying- wait that was the Romans as well

Irrigation- oops romans again

Sounds like from the movie, “The Life of Brian”. It’s all perspective. And right now the lens is blurry.

Keeps this thread from being a complete circle jerk.

It’s important to see multiple perspectives. Got to agree.

All two of them?

Makes the rest of this kinda a waste of your time then, doesn't it?

Sad!

Hmm?

The reporter quoted said they were recovering the dead body of his father.  Apparently that was true in Dec 2023

There were other reports of a hit in this camp, but apologies for posting this version...

Sorry, but I can’t take credit for any of it 🙂

Was a time when the arabic world was leading in so many ways.

Libraries

medicine

astrology

to name a couple.

however, since then, it's been a rough go.

--------------------------------------------------

I read a Louis Lamour novel " The Lonesome Gods' and one of the characters mentions that the people of old California had itñ too easy.

Always warm, plenty of food, easy life made it hard to notice that slippage was occurring.

The libraries of Alexandria and Constantinople held vast amounts of knowledge even by today's standards.

If any person came up with a new idea, knowledge, to do with any subject, they were required to add a copy of what they had discovered, invented, theorised in the library of Constantinople.

I watched a BBC series years ago, East to West

The journey of Civilization.

The turning point,  when the west " passed " the east, was the invention of the printing press in the west.

And just incase the usual suspect gets in a knot I'm only talking about the leaders.

I love you Bobby.

You don't really insult me.

I don't hold malice in my heart for anyone, anywhere.

I just don't like being called a liar and being insulted in other ways.

Does anyone ?

That's the thing Bob, many of the links I post contain information from people living in the area, experiencing the things we are discussing.

Sure. But you have no real experience there. Neither do I. I can't learn anything from you about life in the region.

Roman otoh, yes he's one man with a specific path, I can learn from .

I also find discussions with you frustrating because imo it always ends up in a competition of who cares more. Sorry that's my honest take on my experience talking to you.

I don't mean to insult you, I just don't like engaging with you anymore.

I was serious when I said you don't insult me.

I have never seen you insult anyone on this board.

You won my heart when you posted about being a meals on wheels volunteer.

Again I don't carry malice or anger in my heart.

That would only reflect on my character.

Anger hurts those the most who carry it.

You have to fact check the guy doing the 1st hand account of what happened?

* I am not sure i believe that same guard shot a 5 year old in the head to keep him from 'escaping?'

* Which he clearly articulated in the video.

* I do believe the guard went on the roof with human shields.

Where have we seen that before in public places?

See about ten posts up. I selected yesterday a Al Jazeera version of a story.  As outlets were reporting a strike causing 60 and 90 deaths. Al Jazeera reported seven?

Sad!

Not only that; his first hand account said this reporter even recorded his fathers death amongst the seven...

Only thing?  He also posted a story in Dec last year saying the same thing...

I prefer one of your other axioms; people are dying.  The only difference is we hold different ideas on how to stop that!

Who do you believe Israel?  Or Erdogan.

Dey aint's nunna his moolah in Turkey...   🤧

I have to admit, this is a suspect source & headline.  Turkey has, however, been a safe haven for terrorists & many of the worlds biggest black market racketeers. Drug dealers, gun runners, people smugglers, exiled politicians; hell any Russian who does not want to fight in Ukraine...

Mate I am stating that source has no credibility.

That video that was posted first showed footage of Kamala Harris stating she wanted a ceasefire to bring the hostages home to Isreal.

Then the presenter stated trump was saying the war in Gaza and Ukraine could lead to WW3.

Then they brought on the Isreali soldier to tell his story.

Couple that with their support for trump and that video was basically a trump election campaign add.

Like what can I say, that site has a reputation for reporting conspiracy theories and pseudo science.

It never ceases to amaze me that the anti religion crowd suddenly believe religious sources, when it suits them.

You want to believe the message they are trying to promote, be my guest.

Do you believe the video about trump finding his faith ?

Tell me, in your opinion, what's more important, bringing the hostages home, or continuing the fight against Hamas'.

Do you also know that there has been a case of polio detected in a child from Gaza ?

UNICEF and the WHO want a break in hostilities so they can immunize over 640,000 children under ten years of age.

https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/humanitarian-pauses-vital-critical-polio-vaccination-campaign-gaza-strip

So again my friend, what's more important, killing Hamas' fighters, or getting the hostages back and immunizing 640,000 kids ?

And we are talking about a ceasefire here.

Which was fundamentally what that video was about.

I can tell you this, I will never believe anything that comes out of the mouth of the " sultan " of Turkey.

And I despise Turkey for their persecution of the Kurds for the last 100 years.

Also I am hesitant to believe much of what Isreal is saying in this war of words/propaganda, that has been going on between these two countries.

Though if I had to choose between the two, I would choose Isreal.

What I can suggest?

I believe capitulating to Sinwar would cost more lives than it saves. Many times more. 400,000 or 1,000,000? I look at it different than ''wanting to continue the fight.''  Instead of asking to remain in power, Hamas should ask to be allowed to exile themselves.  That Gaza would lay down their weapons as a neutral country, to be established, in return for self determination without Hamas; also that Israel recede not just from Gaza but from settlements. I say saving that catastrophe is more important.

I dont see leaving Hamas in power for 1/3rd of hostages. Some dead. The current Biden proposal to my understanding and with more caveats. Accomplishes anything?
