I think this perception is a matter of a couple things. This myth that we have great forward depth now even though much of that depth flopped in camp. The fact that there is a bigger, massive, persistent hole in our lineup next to Quinn. It is not so much the loss of the fifth rounder as the stream of pics that constantly seem to be going out on a non-playoff team. We definitely needed a RH Centre, prior to this trade we had exactly zero on the club. He brings size and speed on the wing if he plays there which is something we are a little short on. He is a good PKer. For a team that looks like it is really going to struggle to score 5 on 5 that is very important. I am not convinced he is much better than waiver level but he definitely fills a need.

Weird how this simple concept is not understood by so many. Weird how you endlessly whine about a fifth round pick. Popular Post Sophomore Jinx
I like this trade even more, the more I think about it. I am tired of borderline tweeners in our bottom 6/4th line, year after year that get overvalued here. Lafferty is a bonafide bottom 6 player, I'll even dare say that in a pinch he can slot in the middle/top 6, in the same way past checking/grinders like Higgins and Hansen used to do Edited October 9, 2023 by Sophomore Jinx 1 7

There is a difference. Whereas if we were to trade say Studnicka for a 5th in return my response would in turn be huh, neat. I thought we had more than enough forwards but a lot of them did show very little in camp. I don't think it's fair to ask who was the last impact player because I don't think we really received an impact player. That being said, there is good players that come out of the later rounds but the odds are quite low.

We're becoming a very tough and annoying team to play against, which is exactly what you need to win games in the regular season and playoffs. Teams now need to find a way to get passed our stingy defence, and then they have Demko to go through. Laff is a big upgrade over guys like Studs and Hogs. 2
