(Trade) Sam Lafferty to Vancouver

Recommended Posts

The funny thing is, Lafferty is exactly the type of player we wish Studnicka was. Both 6'1 190ish. But right handed, both can player center, both have good speed, Studnicka doesn't completely shy away from throwing the body. But Lafferty is just better all around. I do hope Studnicka gets claimed. I did think he came into camp improved, he was playing hard and trying to become what we needed him to be. But not enough that we shouldn't be trying to upgrade on him.

But if a bottom feeder can claim him and give him more looks. Maybe he can develop into the player Lafferty is. Lafferty is a bit of a late bloomer himself. Didn't break 70+ games til this passed season. Hell, it was the first time he played 60+ games in a season and he was 27 years old last season. Studnicka isn't a lost cause, but for a team desperate for the playoffs like we are, we can't really afford to ice him when we can upgrade on him for a measly 5th rounder. Again, hopefully a team like San Jose or Philly pick him up and give him looks. There'll be growing pains, but they're trying to suck anyway.

Well... lets see it happen.  It doesn't seem realistic that every team is shedding players to get under the cap right now, but someone wants to take a player we want to waive even though that means they have to waive another player themselves.  Why wouldn't the other team have traded for Lafferty themselves then and end up with the better player?

So many of these "Hey if these things happen in the future, all is good" type comments."

We pay high picks to ditch a little bit of cap space, even in your imaginary world we add $400k in salary just to trade waiver wire players.  It is meaningless at best, or a waste of cap space or a pick at worst if we end up waiving him ourselves.

we shored up an area of need at a low cost. How is that not a good thing?

Hope this is a precursor to a move that makes this make sense. Otherwise we’re just collecting former penguins and spending a draft pick on a player we don’t really need.

A player who adds sandpaper and makes us harder to play against. These are good players to have. An upgrade on both Aman and Studnicka and hopefully allows Garland or Beau to be traded.

5th round picks are throw aways.... so if the guy can PK... then there is value in getting him.

But but it could be another Jonathan Myrenberg who we could trade for a Jack Studnicka level player who we could then put on waivers in order to trade another 5th round pick for a player we actually needed!

Don’t you see the importance of that pick?!?

Leaf fans describe has top 15% in speed.  A bit of grit.   Can fit in on 3rd or 4th.   Can PK .

So maybe a bit of swiss army knife.  More speed is nice to get on the club.

5th round pick.... meh......

21 pages for a 5th round pick. I wonder how many pages we will have when Petey gets traded?  ☺️

I mean... the sad truth is sometimes I do question whether or not we even deserve someone like Petey or not.  This market is fanatic to the point of stupidity at times.

The funny thing is, half the guys will recant their foolish chirps about trading a 5th rounder after the return plays a few games. Really .. a 5th rounder for an upgrade and the tears are flowing.
