NHL commissioner Gary Bettman to attend Canucks’ home opener tonight

Fans will no doubt greet Bettman with a loud round of boos, as has become custom

For the first time in four years, the NHL’s top boss is in Vancouver.

Commissioner Gary Bettman will be in attendance for the Vancouver Canucks’ home opener versus the Edmonton Oilers Wednesday night at Rogers Arena.

Why the Commissioner is in town isn’t known. The Canucks have a number of pre-game festivities planned for Wednesday, including officially introducing Quinn Hughes as captain and unveiling the new video board system, which is one of the biggest in the NHL.

The team is also having a soft launch for the new VIP lounge area that was built over the off-season between the team’s dressing rooms. Workers have been scrambling down to the final wire to get the lounge completed.

The lounge is members-only, with a special seating area in the stands, between the team benches reserved for members. Tickets are a three-year commitment, costing roughly $75,000 or $85,000 over the term, depending on seat location.

Fans will no doubt greet Bettman with a loud round of boos, as has become custom.

More to come…

didn't we miss last seasons intro because they went to OT as well? it's so annoying. If toronto wins this game the panel will talk about this game and make us miss half of the ceremony. 😠

It seems that every year for season opener, they tend to go OT.  I hate this hype.  Give us a different match-up other than Leafs vs Habs for next season opener.

Im stuck in a hotel in New West for a few days while my wife takes a course at the Justice Institute.

I have already had enough of the big smoke.
