Popular Post AmyTheGma
Well that went about as well as any of us could have dreamed I am sure. This group just seems different this year. I can’t remember when the team played so well as a 5 man unit. Everyone was supporting each other, and they played with a purpose, not just every man for themselves. I still find it very odd that it took this long and that the 3 past coaches couldn’t do this, but here we are. It feels like the team likes each other alot more these days also. As for the game… Hughes and Hronek were defensively solid and just shut down most of the high danger shots from the Edm top line. They did play alot in their end, but they did well to limit the high danger shots. Offensively they seemed almost quiet, but they made very crisp passes to the forwards who seemed to just bury the goals before the defenders even got a chance to shoot on goal. Cole and Myers had me worried a bit in the first, but really settled down as the game went on. I thought oh boy here we go when Myers took that initial over the glass penalty, but they killed it off and he played much better after. Having those 2 big bodies eating up minutes really seemed like we didn’t fold from the forecheck as much as in other years. They were able to tie up the players and then get the puck out very effectively. Hirose and Juulson, nothing fancy but didn’t look out of place. I feel confident that they can hold the fort till reinforcements get back. Anyone know what the ice time was for everyone? 1st line, looked pretty dominant, everyone scored and got points, 5v5, still like the idea of Mik better than Garly just to retrieve pucks better, maybe that part of the game was slightly poor. 2nd line was our best 5v5 I thought, those 3 played great, shutdown the hoser line and scored some timely goals. They have amazing chemistry! 3rd and 4th lines played I thought perfectly. Hard on the forecheck and out played the opposing lines when they were on. With Edmonton loading up their top line so much, our depth was very apparent. PP looked even better than last years, man that movement and crisp passes were a thing of beauty. Pk was solid, that Drais goal was amazing and he always seems to make that perfect shot from there. Hard to stop that, but the system played well. Gonna be a better year if they can keep it up. Demko was dialed in and played as well as I have seen him since the bubble. And all that while dealing with the flu. He is going to win the Vezna as long as no major injuries. Desmith looked very capable jumping in. He made me feel confident he would close things out. 3 3 2

Maniwaki Canuck
What a beat-down. Sure, we had some puck luck but that came from out-competing them nearly the whole game. A bigger test coming on Saturday when they have the last change and can get McDavid away from Miller and Hronek. But our improved positional play is really making a difference. 1
PeteyBoeser
As long as we keep it close I. The first period on Saturday we will have a chance! Demko needs stand on his head cuz they will come out flying esp when McDavid gets angry
Popular Post Boudrias
First Star: Rick Tocchet and coaches: it takes a lot to change a team mentality Second Star: team puck support Third Star: BB with 4 goals. What a weight off his shoulders PDG: was robbed of a 2nd assist Hogs: solid game on both sides of the puck. A couple of nice setups. Lafferty and Suter; are really nice adds Petey: will get his payday! Dominant on both sides of the puck. What does he weigh now? He is rocking opposing players with his hits. 185? 3 4

Jester13
Total domination for 60 minutes against the cup favourites. We couldn't have asked for a better opening game. 2

Popular Post CanucksJay
Many things I'm thankful for yesterday. Superb job coaching. Game plan was perfect and players executed to the game plan. Boeser and our top guys start the season hot. Confidence and belief is such an important part of the game. The boys will buy in to what RT is selling. I mean they scored 4 pts each and won. They saw immediate rewards which means they'll continue to listen and do what RT says. We played well despite not having Soucy and Mik. We will only get better. Who draws out when Soucy comes in? Is it both Hirose and Juulsen and do we see Mcward come in? What are their natural sides? Yesterday was the best thing to happen to the guys in a long time. Also we were able to save Demko early. What a warrior battling the flu. Completely outplayed Campbell and Skinner 4 3

Completely outplayed Campbell and Skinner I think Hirose will stay; Soucy will jump into 2nd pair LHD. Cole will bump over to RHD with Hughes, Myers to the 3rd pair. I actually don't mind that group. Collapse in the middle like they did last night, and exploit the aggression. Their D sucks without Ekholm; Bouchard has no place in teh NHL beyond the PP. After a period with no fruit, him and Driasatl get pissy and take stupid penalties. Draisatl is like clockwork in this fashion. 1

spook007
What a magic game.... So pleased for Brock... if anyone needed a bit of cheering up. This may be start of something special for him this season. Besides the top lines playing like top lines and scoring for fun, it was great to see all the newcomers play like they've been on this team for years. Great pick ups by FA... PK massively improved. Finally, Hirose could turn out to be something magical... He seems so composed in his play and except for a few times. Keep this up, and they will still be playing come play offs time.... Great stuff Edited October 12, 2023 by spook007 2

grumpyone
1. realistically, it's only one game, or was that only game one? 2. this blow out only makes a difference IF we DON'T get blown out on Saturday. ( I'd bet we lose on Sat. just hoping that it's close ) 3. why didn't someone ask Connor ---" why are you so pissy? " 4. back to C M. he's upset that we sent out our 1st PP unit @ 6-1.... as if the Oilers wouldn't do the same thing to run up the score. I'll give him a pass on his comments on us changing goalies, as he probably didn't know about Demko's illness. 5. the Oilers showed their lack of professionalism with all their whacks and hacks. Glad the stripes called them and even more glad that we made them pay for it on the score sheet. 6. Petey could've been called for charging on his hit on Cici... but I'm glad he didn't. 7. 80-90% of all the 'experts' on the TSN panel have the Oilers winning the cup this year... ain't going to happen with this defence/goaltending. 8. See you Saturday night ...hmmm calls for pizza night me thinks 3

eeeeeeeeergh
8 hours ago, WSAcanuck said: Some really pretty passes and offensive plays but what was really noticeable to me was an effective forecheck, quicker and more accurate shooting even through traffic instead of waiting for the perfect shot, and players going hard to - and stopping - at the net and getting in position to screen effectively. Those things made a huge difference. And it felt like every time Edmonton entered our zone, all our players were already back and swarmed. Gave Edmonton 0 space.

Popular Post steviewonder20
From the Edmonton Journal and it pisses me off: ‘It’s just one game, and one game in early October doesn’t mean anything, but, man, did they look stale and detached. Remember, this was the Vancouver Canucks, not the Carolina Hurricanes or Toronto Maple Leafs, that undressed them on national television.” i want the Canucks to get more respect than that. 4
