Bull pen needs much better pitchers, for next season.

Starting  pitching looks good with the top 4

Basssitt

Gausman

Berrios

Francis

I'd hope the can trade a few of the young  fielders, for 1 or 2 more established guys, --but I'm having a bit of a tough time on who should be the goners.

Most of the 'Buffalo' guys are playing very well-

guess it comes down to positional needs.

good article on Spencer Horwitz:

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/mlb/how-spencer-horwitz-s-offensive-production-compares-to-other-rookies/ar-AA1qsYoS?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=1b959548eb97499a931578b47bdfa520&ei=53

"

Of all the rookie position players the Toronto Blue Jays have given playing time to in 2024, Spencer Horwitz has the subtlest skill set.

He doesn’t mash the ball like Addison Barger, run the bases like Joey Loperfido, or play slick defence up the middle like Leo Jiménez. Will Wagner has similar tools, but he’s already topped Horwitz’s 2024 max exit velocity on just 62 balls in play (109.1 mph) — and seems to have more of the team’s confidence with the glove considering he’s played 161 innings at second base to Horwitz’s 11 since arriving in the majors.

None of that is meant to denigrate the former 24th-round pick’s production, or even potential. Instead, it helps explain why his accomplishments can go underappreciated. His success is predicated on the type of consistently strong process that leads to excellent walk and strikeout numbers but rarely makes headlines coming out of any individual game.

Most Blue Jays fans would agree that Horwitz is in the midst of a strong 2024. What his understated style may camouflage is that he’s probably having the best offensive season of any rookie in franchise history.

Ex-college phenom Kumar Rocker making MLB debut for Rangers

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/41235796/ex-college-phenom-kumar-rocker-making-mlb-debut-rangers

SEATTLE -- The wait is finally over for Kumar Rocker.

Rocker will make his major league debut Thursday night for the Texas Rangers as they open a series in Seattle against the Mariners. The debut for the Rangers' top pitching prospect is the conclusion of a lengthy journey through the pro game for the former college phenom.

After being a dominant star in college at Vanderbilt, Rocker became the 10th overall pick by the Mets in 2021 amateur draft and went unsigned due to medical concerns. Texas drafted him third overall in 2022 and he has recovered from Tommy John surgery in May 2023 to earn the promotion leading to Thursday's debut.

The Toronto Blue Jays are doing what they can to improve their bullpen amidst recent struggles from the relief unit.

Toronto claimed righty Brett de Geus off waivers from the Miami Marlins and, in a corresponding move, has designated fellow righty Yerry Rodriguez for assignment, the team announced on Thursday.

De Geus was designated for assignment for the Marlins on Tuesday after struggling to a 6.35 ERA with the team this season. He started the year with the Seattle Mariners, where he had a 2.70 ERA in 3.1 innings of work from the bullpen.

Overall, the 26-year-old has a career 7.17 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 59.0 innings pitched over 58 appearances at the major league level.

The Blue Jays optioned the Pleasanton, Calif., native to triple-A Buffalo.

Rodriguez, 26, was traded to the Blue Jays from the Texas Rangers in June for minor-league righty Josh Mollerus. In 4.2 innings of work with the Blue Jays this season, he has a 15.43 ERA and five strikeouts.

Minnesota Twins minor-league catcher Derek Bender has been released by the organization after it was found that he tipped off opponents during a game last week.

Bender was selected in the sixth round of July's draft out of Coastal Carolina, and had been plying his trade in Low-A while waiting for his chance in the major leagues.

That won't be coming any time soon, though, after he was released by the Twins on Thursday following an incident while playing for the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels.

According to ESPN, it was found that Bender told opposing Lakeland Flying Tigers hitters the type of pitch they would be facing from starter Ross Dunn at the plate during at-bats on September 6.

Lakeland scored four runs in the second inning and won the game 6-0, which eliminated Fort Myers from playoff contention in the Florida State League West Division.

His actions were reportedly discovered after Lakeland coaches notified Fort Myers about the pitch tipping after the game, and there is no indication of wrongdoing from the Flying Tigers - who are said to have been 'surprised' at the information.

Bender was selected with the 188th overall pick of this year's draft, and was signed for $297,500. He will reportedly keep the entirety of his bonus despite being cut.

He played 19 games for Fort Myers in the Low-A division, but spent the final two games of the season in the bullpen rather than his usual place in the dugout.

Sort of.....and it was the source of one of the all time great movie lines:

Crash: "Wow! Anything that flies that far ought to have a stewardess on it"....:classic_laugh:

Followed by another gem:

"Don't worry Nuke, I can think of a lot of parks that wouldn't be out of...."

"Oh yeah? Name one!"

"......Yellowstone?"

Jays claim a catcher- and designate Serven, for assignment.

Maybe they want to see if Bowden Francis can pitch, with a different catcher?

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays claimed Tyler Heineman off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on Monday and designated fellow catcher Brian Serven for assignment.

Heineman, who had two short stints with the Blue Jays over the last couple years, spent the majority of this season at Triple-A Worcester

The 33-year-old native of Pacific Palisades, Calif., made his big-league debut with the Miami Marlins in 2019. He played 10 games with the Blue Jays in 2022 and made 19 appearances for Toronto last year.

Heineman played in two games for the Red Sox this season. He has played in 106 career big-league games in all for the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Marlins, San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Serven, 29, hit .159 with three RBIs over 28 games for Toronto this season.
