RupertKBD
1 hour ago, Gurn said: Heard Blair and Barker yesterday, talking about Rowdy Tellez. Seems Pittsburgh released him- 4 at bats short of a $200,000 bonus https://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/mlb/rowdy-tellez-cut-pittsburgh-pirates-performance-bonus-mlb-1.7333435 " The Pittsburgh Pirates released first baseman Rowdy Tellez and promoted infielder Liover Peguero from triple-A Indianapolis. The move comes with just six games left in the season and Pittsburgh eliminated from playoff contention. Tellez, who signed a one-year, $3.2-million US deal last off-season, recovered from a slow start to hit .243 in 131 games with 13 home runs and 56 runs batted in. The former Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter entered Tuesday four plate appearances shy of a $200,000 bonus, though Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said the bonus had "zero factor" in the decision to cut ties with the 29-year-old, who had become a fan favourite in Pittsburgh during a summer surge. ----------------------------------------- mal --------------------- This decision will likely make it harder to sign guys in free agency. I'm calling BS on the claim that the bonus had zero to do with the decision. It's not like the Pirates are battling for the Wild Card. Seems like a petty way to say $200k and it absolutely should make it harder to sign FA's.....(I mean, even harder than convincing players to come to Pittsburgh, in the first place)
UnkNuk
The Dodgers are in first place in the NL West. Of course they are. They lead the Padres by two games, having lost yesterday to the Padres. They have two more games in the series. Then they have three games against the Rockies to finish the season. The Padres have the two games against the Dodgers and then three games against the Diamondbacks. There's no way the Padres are going to catch the Billion Dollar Dodgers, is there?
UnkNuk
And the White Sox are once again going for history tonight. They play the Angels. Lose this one and they set the record for most losses in a season by an MLB team in the modern era (since 1901). 1
