The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed winger Liam Foudy on waivers.

The 23-year-old was originally drafted 18th overall by the club in 2018. At the time, he was a standout with the London Knights, who’d have consecutive 68-point seasons to close out his junior career. Foudy was also a big part of Canada’s gold medal at the 2020 world juniors and played a depth role during the team’s 2021 World Championship effort.

Foudy made his NHL debut during the 2019-20 season before going full-time pro in 2020-21. He struggled with just four points in 24 NHL games, but looked solid in the AHL. Foudy finally became a full-time NHLer last year, scoring seven goals and 14 points in 62 games. The Blue Jackets were hoping for more in 2023-24, but after a slow preseason, and just 7:56 in ice time last Saturday, he found himself on the sidelines for two of the team’s first three games.

In 90 NHL games, Foudy has seven goals and 19 points. He also has 35 points in 41 games with the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters, whom he’ll join if he goes unclaimed.

Known for his incredible speed, Foudy could still be a decent pickup for a team needing some energy in the bottom six. He has one year left on his deal at $762,500.

In other news, defenseman Zach Werenski was activated off injured reserve after just one week. Werenski suffered a quad contusion in the team’s home opener against Philadelphia last Thursday. Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway was given a two-minute minor for kneeing Werenski with just over five minutes to go in the second. Werenski would not return to the contest.

Goaltender Elvis Merzlikins is also set to return against Calgary on Friday after dealing with an illness against the New York Rangers last week, while prospect Jordan Dumais has been loaned back to the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads.

I remember this kid, he has blazing speed. I'm sure he will be claimed, but I'd take a flyer on him if he weren't.

If he was 21 instead of 23, I'd be more interested, but then again, he likely wouldn't be waiver eligible if he was 21 and if he was, the Blue Jackets probably wouldn't waive him.

He was taken a bit too early IMO.

I remember him being ranked somewhere in the late 20's to early 40's in that draft year. Columbus sort of made a wild card selection here and not super surprised he hasn't wowed anyone.

I'd take a flyer on him to see if you can get a Chandler Stephenson out of him. But I don't think he is more than an energy forward with speed at this point.

Bcoz perhaps not everyone would know or remember who he is?

And Foudy's name is literally in the first sentence of the article.

Please tell me this is sarcasm.

Edit: I hope you are not referring the Werenski, only someone completely new to the sport would not know who Werenski is.

If Blueger and Suter weren't already on the team Foudy would be intriguing. I honestly think it'd be best for him to get a full year in the A though. Dude has 41 AHL games under his belt and is 23, he'll be 24 before the end of this season. That's distressing, cause he also only has 80 NHL games. He's played way too few professional games for a 23 year old. They completely ruined his development by using him as a bottom 6/depth guy at the NHL level and not letting him marinate in the AHL.

Edit: Has he been injured? Probably should ask that before assuming they just refused to play him. But haven't heard about any major injuries involving him.

WTF are you talking about??? Clickbaiting???

Just posted about a player on waivers, that's all.

If the mods want to take it down, so you can begin your healing process, it suits me just fine....but holy shit buddy go get some fresh air or something, instead of looking for something that isn't there.

Mate.  You copied an MSN.com clickbait headline.  It sucks.

It won't happen again, alright? I'm just a plebe, and I don't even know what clickbaiting is haha, I just remembered a time when there was always a rule of providing links in any post on the old CDC, that's all.

Think this could be a precursor to a garland trade. Management would probably not claim one of their players if they are in the middle of negotiating a trade. Although, I would probably try foudy out with latterty and blueger. That line would have some good speed which we are in dire need of.
