Popular Post DownUndaCanuck
Really hard fought game, not quite playoff level hitting or intensity but close, stick battles were tough, very even game both ways. Both special teams were solid and top end skill prevails in the end. Petey, Kuzmenko and Mikheyev weren't great to be honest, but of course when you've got top end skill like that all you need is one or two chances to break a game open and they did. Hope they can start getting some chemistry by playing together loads now. Just like how Matthews or Ovi float around and then strike out of nowhere, Kuzmenko comes up with two beautiful skill plays. He doesn't forecheck too well, defends averagely but boy is his offensive IQ off the charts - a bit like Boeser. Miller's line was very solid, Boeser had some good and bad moments but it's the unsung hero who's turning into a bit of an MVP - PDG - who single handedly wins this game out of nowhere. We're getting shelled, like 17 shots to 2, momentum shifts to the Panthers at home in the 3rd period, and Rick throws out PDG by himself, wins a puck battle against OEL and takes on 3 Panthers when he has no right to and somehow sets up Kuz for the winner. That is the play of the game if not week and should be rolled at training over and over. If we have Mikheyev playing like that then we've got a dangerous top 6. We need to get Garland and Beauvillier playing like that. Seems like such a little thing but that was an immense play against the run of play. Our bottom 6 were pretty average, nothing great, nothing horrendous. Studnicka and Joshua looked good at times but again, nothing amazing. On defence, it was an interesting game. Quinn had one of his most impactful games as a Canuck, even with just 1 goal/point, he is on another level. This is how McDavid looks when he's skating rings around people and Hughes is quickly becoming McDavid-like on defence. He's one or two gears ahead of everyone else. Loading him up with Hronek may be a bit unnecessary but they played 25 minutes each and just dominated offensively and even defensively (although you could argue Hughes missed his man on that one goal). Cole has a big task then to help out Myers, and they looked ugly on the Barkov goal but otherwise were pretty solid. Myers is just such an aggressive defensive defenceman so when he does rush the forward, it either is a great play or dreadful one, but he got 1 wrong and about 4 right. DeSmith was solid again but to be honest it doesn't matter who we throw out there in net, as long as we have Clarke we'll get a good goalie performance. Bit a bit too hard on the Barkov goal and that Reinhart shot went right through him which you'd like to think Demko would have had. All in all a very solid game from both teams, lots of back and forth, we shouldn't have let up a 2 goal lead but a lot of teams do nowadays so it's not too shocking, the bigger thing is winning it back. 1

Philly was supposed to suck. With all these days off they should have fresh legs every game. So, yeah. It's a soft schedule. I get what you're saying... but Bolts and Panthers are legit challengers so wiuldn't call them soft. But ok they are refreshed before the games personally I'd consider between 4 and 6 points from a 5 game road trip with sll the travelling a success, so in my book the achieved that. cheers. 1

There is no doubt we are needing tough to play against players... especially on our 3rd line, but management are working hard to off load 1 or 2 of our highly paid wingers. Quite sure Brock is off the trade list ,now that he has started to score again. Still need a better rhd man, than what we have, but beggers can't be choosers.... As for being a good time to play them, yes true, but it is, what it is... If folks thought we were gonna end top of our division they are kidding themselves. Its a process... baby steps, but heading the right direction. last year the games in Edmonton and Miami would have been losses.

Rubik
I don't think the team played very good, Florida was much better in long stretches of the game, but individual flashes won that game for them (like that quick release from Petey, the Soucy goal on that awful PP, etc...). With the exception of the third goal, DeSmith was solid. Win the next game against Nashville and it's a 3-2 road trip, I could live with that. Agree with you on this. I think, part of it is, Tocchet is changing the way we play... We were often outworked under Bruce, and I think thats one of the issues that Tocchet highlighted. it takes time to get out of old habits, and a few of the players will not fit in under this system... get a couple of rugget wingers (duracell bunnies) to play on the 3rd line (think most of us had hoped one would be Podz), and a better rhd, and I think we will see a change. We need to keep the tempo us. There were lots of talk about flu etc, which would mean fatique. That together with travelling sleeping in hotels etc, won't help much. The real tests will be the next homestand, whete there really will be no excuses. 1 2 1

Popular Post vcBrett
Anything that needs saying, has already been said. Big win tonight, hopefully we can make it two in a row! One thing I do feel I need to say, Giusseppe, wow. He he has not been the best player for us, but he might be the best player for his price. The guy has been looking like prime Burrows out there this season. His forechecking is beastly right now and he just seems to be winning the majority of puck battles. That set-up after winning the puck battle was so Burrows-esque. He is definitely benefiting from being on the Boeser/Miller line, but he has also earned the privilege to be on that line. Hope he doesnt wear himself out. 3 - 2 -0 is a good way to start the season, especially with four being on the road. Like a lot of what im seeing from this team right now. There is still a lot of improving that needs doing, but I cant help but feel like this isnt the same team from the last few years. Only time will tell, but im excited to find out and be along for the ride. Go Canucks Go!!! 2 1 1

This would be where we need upgrades going further, in my opinion. A lot of work to go but I am excited. But I think there is potential to be a #6 guy. Not ideal, but we will see how things progress. I had almost forgot Blueger was on this team. I think since he hasnt played yet we havent seen what impact he can make, so its easy to overlook his absence. Really curious to see the team dynamic with Blueger in. I think getting another RHD to play with Cole and moving out Garland is really the only major moves I think we need to make. As much as we would all like to see Meyers not on the blueline, its best to keep him and eat the rest of his contract to get that relief when it ends. I dont want a Meyers trade that sees us taking on a bad contract in return or giving up draft picks to sweeten the deal. But, success and failure will ultimately decide what changes we want to and or need to make.
