And goalies got better, a lot better.

And now they got a lot worse right?   Maybe there is more to it.   Like not bloating the league.  Explain Patrick Roy's save percentage.   Dead puck era.    Bloated equipment.   Now save percentages have slipped all the way back to early 90's level.   Are the goalies a lot worse today?

Player skill has gone way up.

Shooting ability has gone way up.

(Release/velocity/accuracy etc)

Goalies today are far better ONLY because the level of skills coaching and the finely tuned evolution of the butterfly has become more and more technical. The raw explosiveness of goaltenders in today’s game is far greater than anyone pre-2k. Athleticism has reached new heights from offseason and behind the scenes workouts and training programs.

Now that’s not to say that Roy wouldn’t be a god in today’s game if he was as highly tuned as every single athlete in today’s day. The great ones were building blocks. Studied and studied over and over and replicated over and Over and tweaked and tuned over and over to get to the point of full capability.

There is another level or two that has never been uncovered in every legend of the sport. They were just the top of the food chain to the level of growth in the sport at that point in time…

That was such a wild run he was on. After that series, there was pretty much no doubt who the Conn Smythe winner would be, regardless of who won the Finals.

”One time the Bulls and Blackhawks played back-to-back games in Vancouver, and we convinced players from both teams to all go out together at Roxy’s. Even straitlaced Bull Steve Kerr was there. I remember Jeremy Roenick was shooting pool with Jordan. Everyone in the bar was watching us.

That was before the age of iPhones, Instagram, and Twitter, meaning we were allowed to have a good time without incriminating photos and stories all over the Internet.
We stayed at the bar until about 6:00 AM, which was when the Blackhawks had to leave for the airport. The Bulls were shellacked by the Vancouver Grizzlies the next night, and forward Scottie Pippin ratted us out to the media.

”We were out with the Hawks all night,” Pippin said in defense of the Bulls’ dismal performance.

Reading that nugget in the Chicago newspapers, our coach Darryl Sutter punished us the next day by skating us for 45 minutes with no pucks involved. Thanks, Scottie!”
