The Calgary Flames are a mess

At 2.5 Huberdough would be great to have. But the likelihood of that happening is zero. He’s got 7 years left on his contract. No teams are going to retain for that long.

Flames were totally F’ed up by Triliving. They are screwed, blued, and rather for the next decade.

Retaining at 50% would be cheaper than the eventual Buyout flames will have to do

when they do buy him out he will get a gig somewhere else at 2.5Mil no problemo

True, but this will be like the Benning mistake with OELevator. A long and painful, but necessary, penalty for the club to get better.

They could learn from our OEL mistake.

The prospects they have actually look (eye test) pretty good for about 4 or 5 years from now. They have to clean up now rather than wait for a proper re-build

Flames can afford to keep 50% retention on Hueber-dough. If they can get another team to take 25% he would be a great contract for Canucks at around 2.5M.

Guy has skills but needs a team.

Watched him here in Saint John as a SeaDog (QMJHL) and he has alot more to his game than anyone sees. He will never get his game back in Calgary

Sure, 7 years 5M retention seems huge but at least they could get a player back in a trade with retention. As a buyout, in a few years even, the penalty will last 14 years right now....  and a few of those years they get a full 10M cap hit but its before/during their young prospects are on the ice.

Retention for 6 or 7 years less painful. Considering all the cheap youth they have coming up and the picks for the next few years.

They should go the Tank route now. Full out tank.

The Smelly Cowpies are already in full out rebuild. But they aren’t going to get any other club helping them retain on Huberdough. He’s got seven years left. They are F’ed.

Ok now, settle... what about Garland for Huberdough and Calgary retains 50%. What do the empties say now.
