I figured that he should get over the mono excuse after a month or two, but it turns out that it pretty much ruined his whole season as he never got caught up. Lekkerimaki is expected to join the Canucks’ organization when his season is done. It remains unclear, however, if he will play for Team Sweden at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, which begins on May 10 and will be hosted by Czechia. But if Orebro crashes out on Tuesday, do the Canucks really want Lekkerimaki to sit around in Sweden for two months? If the 5-foot-11, 176-pound right-shot winger joins the Abbotsford Canucks, there’d still be several weeks left for Lekkerimaki to acclimatize himself before the Calder Cup playoffs start. And the way he’s played this season, it could be a win-win situation for both prospect and organization. Now we wait for his arrival in Abbotsford. Hard-hitting defensive prospect Elias Pettersson played his final game for Vasteras on Friday, a 4-0 loss, their fifth in the final six games of a sorry season in Sweden’s second-tier Hockey Allsvenskan. The vibes are certainly going to be better for the 20-year-old in the Fraser Valley, though he’ll be joining a crowded defensive corps when he arrives later this week. The Canucks’ blue-line is nearly at full strength, with veteran Chris Wolanin the only notable injury, so Pettersson will be competing on the left side with the likes of Matt Irwin, Nick Cicek, Akito Hirose and the returning Guillaume Brisebois. We’ll see how the organization’s blue-line depth really stacks up with Pettersson suiting up in Abbotsford. Pettersson, a 2022 third-round pick, had a standout World Junior Championship tournament a few months ago and the truculent 6-foot-4, 209-pound D-man held his own for a bottom-feeding team this season, going a minus-1 with three goals and 11 assists in 34 games. Maybe Podz and Hoggy swap or Boes and Lekkerimaki could, but hopefully there can be 2 solid lines among these 6 forwards. The Petey all Swedish line sounds fun for them. Does he project as more than a PP specialist. How does he look aside from clapping bombs from Ovi's office? I've seen a lot of guys light up the WJC Schroeder, Zegras, Denisenko, Alex Nylander, Yakupov etc Does Lekkerimaki have more in his tool box? Is the shot enough? I have watched bits and pieces of several Orebro games this season. The Swedish game is very different from the NHL game. For one thing, there is so much more room on the big European ice that there is considerably less physical contact and more skating. The Swedish game is very much a possession game with much less scoring. Lekkerimaki has a world class shot and great offensive instincts, but is average defensively. In order to transition to the NHL he is going to have to become physically stronger and be willing to win puck battles along the boards and in the corners. He is a good but not outstanding skater who will have to learn what it takes to play a 200-foot North American game. Eager fans look at his devastating shot and want to rush him into the lineup, figuring the shot will immediately translate to NHL stardom, but he's only 19 and needs to learn not only the NHL style, but what Vancouver demands of its players. If he is serious about his conditioning, and is open and eager to follow coaching instruction, he might be ready by the middle of next season, but more likely he spends a year in the training ground that is Abbotsford. 1 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As the above poster mentioned, his defensive game and physical strength in the corners are his biggest weaknesses. But he's really good making plays in small areas with limited time and space, his skating - while maybe not outstanding - is remarkably shifty and deceptive, he's an incredible off-puck playmaker; I always make the comparison to other highly skilled small forwards from his draft like Ostlund or Savoie who love to carry the puck and make plays with their passing, while Lekkerimaki often prefers to use his teammates, dishing the puck quickly and making plays with his puck support and skating routes. So Lekkerimäki would be a good fit with Petey then. Petey is the play driver and playmaker who will set up Lekkerimäki. They also shoot with opposite hands, so both can be on the off wing for the one timer. Höglander will be the 3rd wheel retrieving pucks and be the F1 on the forecheck. Bonkers Posted March 18 Share Posted March 18 Örebro goalie (Norwegian I think) was man of the match, shots were something like 40 to 15. JL had maybe 6-7 shot attempts. Look at him now... definitely top 10 if not top 5 NHL affiliated prospect now.
